Responsibilities
- Develop engaging curriculum plans that incorporate theater techniques, improvisation, acting exercises, and stagecraft tailored to various age groups.
- Lead interactive classes that promote creativity, teamwork, and self-expression among students.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a positive learning environment conducive to artistic exploration.
- Provide individualized support and encouragement to students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
- Incorporate additional arts elements such as dance (ballet or other styles), singing, or basic set design to enrich the learning experience.
- Coordinate with program coordinators to ensure smooth class schedules and seamless student transitions.
- Document student progress and provide feedback to parents or guardians when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in teaching theater, drama, or performing arts to children or adolescents.
- Strong background in curriculum development and lesson planning for early childhood education or school-age students.
- Excellent classroom management skills with the ability to motivate and engage young learners.
- Experience working with children in preschool or early childhood settings is preferred.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods for diverse learning needs and developmental stages.
- Passion for fostering creativity through theater, dance, and other artistic expressions while maintaining a lively, positive atmosphere.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to program locations throughout Philadelphia.
- Professional, dependable, and positive attitude.
- Ability to pass required background clearances (or willingness to obtain them).
- Knowledge of additional creative disciplines such as dancing (including ballet), photography, sewing, cooking, or culinary arts is a plus.
- Familiarity with special education strategies and behavior management techniques is desirable.
Schedule
- Summer programs begin June 22, 2026.
- Class schedules vary by location.
- Hours are assigned based on program needs and may increase throughout the summer and school year.
- Opportunities to pick up additional classes and gigs based on availability and performance.
Compensation
- $30–$40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
- Opportunities for additional paid teaching assignments throughout the year.
