The Safety Trainer plays a vital role in planning, organizing, and executing various training programs essential for drivers in compliance with legal requirements. They conduct classroom sessions, behind-the-wheel training, and consistently review drivers' proficiency and comprehension of safety protocols. The primary objective is to ensure that Hotard Shuttle have adept and safety-oriented drivers. Additionally, the Safety Trainer guides and supports drivers in obtaining and renewing licenses and permits, offering instruction to fulfill licensing prerequisites. They conduct regular assessments of drivers' driving abilities and administer practice road tests for new driver applicants.
This is a Sunday-Thursday position
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Plan, develop, and deliver engaging training programs for drivers that meet all legal, regulatory, and company standards.
- Facilitate interactive classroom sessions using visual aids, printed materials, video content, and scenario-based discussions to promote comprehension and retention.
- Provide practical, hands-on behind-the-wheel instruction to reinforce classroom learning and develop safe driving behaviors.
- Deliver thorough classroom and field-based training on Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections, emphasizing safety compliance and attention to detail.
- Instruct Motorcoach Operators on a wide range of job responsibilities, including:
Customer service and on-board announcements
Professional driver conduct and communication
Defensive driving and hazard awareness
Accurate use of electronic logging devices (ELDs), including Samsara
- Provide training on regulatory topics such as DOT compliance, company safety policies, and hours-of-service logging procedures.
- Continuously improve training materials to reflect updated regulations, policies, and technology.
- Maintain detailed and up-to-date training records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Support the ongoing development of drivers by promoting safety culture and operational excellence.
Driver Evaluation and Skill Assessment
- Conduct ongoing evaluations of drivers to ensure consistent adherence to Hotard Shuttles' safety standards and procedures.
- Administer pre-employment road tests to assess the qualifications and capabilities of prospective drivers.
- Evaluate driver performance through scheduled skill assessments and corrective action coaching as needed.
- Provide behind-the-wheel retraining for drivers involved in safety incidents, Samsara events, or identified for unsafe driving behaviors such as tailgating or aggressive maneuvers.
- Train new drivers on the operation of ADA-compliant wheelchair lift systems installed on the company's motorcoaches.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be ready to operate any service lines when required by operations, showcasing adaptability and readiness.
- Assist with year-end reports and audits as needed, contributing to the efficiency and compliance of the safety department.

Education / Experience Required:
- Minimum 2 years' total experience with CDL (Class A or B)
- Minimum 1-year experience operating vehicle "in-type" (similar to prospective position)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Class A or B Driver's License with a passenger endorsement and air brakes certification required.
