Job Summary
Landscapes and maintains grounds of properties using hand or power tools and equipment. Performing a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: removing and installing landscape materials, including but not limited to, plants, trees, mulch, stone, and edging. Removing, planting, watering, and pruning trees and plants. Raking and clearing debris. Installation of hardscape materials, landscape lighting, water features, and irrigation systems. Shovels and plows snow and spreads salt during snow removal season. The Crew Leader is also responsible for managing and directing a crew of two to three technicians. Responsible for training new technicians, assigning tasks and responsibilities, and overseeing projects.
General Accountabilities
Labor
- Removes and installs landscape materials such as fabric, mulch, rock and sod.
- Maintains grounds by weeding, water, pruning, planting, and trimming trees, shrubs, flowers, hedges, and other plants.
- Raking and clearing away debris.
- Installs hardscapes such a paver patios, retaining walls, and water features such as irrigation systems and ponds.
- Mowing and trimming lawns.
- Operates powered lawn equipment, such as mowers, string trimmer, skid steers, tractors, hedge trimmer, sod cutter, and pruning saws.
- Can safely operate all the following equipment: skid steer, mini excavator, mulch mate, tool cat, tractor, truck and trailer, and dump truck.
- Uses tools such as shears, pruners, or chain saws.
- Shovel snow and spread salt with machine and by hand.
- Plowing snow.
- Mixes and sprays or spreads fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees using proper PPE.
Leadership
- Attends daily and weekly crew/department meetings.
- Oversees Technicians assigned to them and assigns tasks accordingly. Guides and assists them in the above accountabilities.
- Makes decisions with the Lead/Foreman regarding equipment, vehicles, and tools needed for jobs.
- Can make correct calls in the field if plans change or complications arise on a jobsite with little to no assistance from Lead.
- Ensures work assigned to your crew is being completed correctly and efficiently by walking the job site during and at the end of every project.
- Communicates with their crew on their daily assignment & job responsibilities.
- Delegates workload to Technicians to ensure that jobs are being completed in a timely manner.
- Resolves work performance problems/concerns among their crew with the support of their Lead or Foreman when necessary.
- Completes performance evaluations of Technicians when requested.
- Trains new technicians.
- Ensure all supplies are on hand for upcoming jobs. Reports low inventory to office staff.
- Manages jobs assigned to their team through Service Autopilot Mobile and updates job notes with any changes encountered on the job.
- Maintains positive attitude and work relationship with peers.
- Reads and understands landscape and hardscape design plans and follows them correctly.
Miscellaneous
- Supervises safe loading and unloading of equipment and materials.
- Ensures vehicles and equipment are properly put away and properly fueled daily.
- Maintains positive attitude and work relationship with peers.
- Maintains equipment & vehicles which may include repairs and routine maintenance as needed.
- Maintains, cleans, and organizes shop.
- Reports any maintenance concerns or unsafe conditions or repairs to supervisor.
- Encourages and enforces safe working conditions with crew.
- Enforces and adheres to company, state, and federal safety guidelines at all times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment
- Outdoor: daily exposure to various weather conditions, including but not limited to very hot or cold temperatures, humidity, rain, sleet, snow, ice, and wind.
- Handles chemicals including fertilizer, insecticides, herbicides, and pesticides.
- Exposure to various plants and landscape materials, dust, common outdoor allergens, and moderate noises.
- Use of safety gear such as eye and hearing protection, safety vests, gloves, and hard hats.
- Frequent changes to work schedule with limited notice is to be expected.
- Early AM and Late PM hours during snow removal season.
- Possibility of working weekends and holidays.
- Weekly AM crew leader meeting with Owner and/or Operations Manager.
Physical Demands
- Be able to lift overhead and carry 50 pounds.
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs, and full body movement such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking and stooping.
- Safely bend, stoop, pull, push, squat and stand for long periods of time.
- Be able to work outdoors up to 10 hours per day in various weather conditions.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
