The African American Youth Harvest Foundation (AAYHF) has proudly served Central Texas since 2006 by providing comprehensive, evidence-based programs that strengthen children, youth, families, and communities. Through innovative initiatives including the Harvest Trauma Recovery Center, workforce development, mentoring, education, behavioral health, food security, housing stabilization, violence prevention, and community development, AAYHF serves thousands of individuals annually while building pathways from crisis to long-term success.
We are seeking an experienced, visionary, and highly motivated Director of Development to lead the organization's fundraising and resource development efforts during an exciting period of organizational growth.
Position Summary
The Director of Development serves as the senior fundraising executive responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all philanthropic resource development activities for the African American Youth Harvest Foundation. The Director will lead comprehensive fundraising strategies designed to diversify revenue through major gifts, foundation grants, corporate partnerships, government funding, sponsorships, annual campaigns, capital campaigns, donor stewardship, and special events.
The Director will also supervise the Marketing & Communications Manager to ensure all branding, digital marketing, storytelling, public relations, and communications efforts strategically support fundraising initiatives, donor engagement, and organizational growth.
This position works closely with the President & CEO, Board of Directors, executive leadership team, community partners, and donors to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Director of Development will:
Strategic Fund Development
- Develop and implement comprehensive annual and long-range fundraising strategies.
- Establish fundraising goals, revenue projections, and departmental performance metrics.
- Develop diversified revenue strategies that increase unrestricted and restricted funding.
- Lead annual giving campaigns, capital campaigns, sponsorship campaigns, online giving initiatives, and major fundraising efforts.
Donor Development & Stewardship
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, major donors, foundations, corporations, civic organizations, and government agencies.
- Develop donor cultivation strategies that increase donor retention and lifetime giving.
- Coordinate donor recognition and stewardship programs.
- Prepare donor impact reports and annual giving summaries.
Grant Development
- Identify grant opportunities from local, state, federal, corporate, and private foundation sources.
- Coordinate proposal development and grant submission activities.
- Monitor grant compliance, reporting deadlines, and grant performance.
- Collaborate with program leadership to ensure successful grant implementation.
Corporate & Community Partnerships
- Develop strategic partnerships with corporations, businesses, healthcare systems, educational institutions, and philanthropic organizations.
- Secure sponsorships for organizational programs, events, conferences, and special initiatives.
- Represent AAYHF at community events, networking meetings, and public presentations.
Development Operations
- Oversee donor database management and CRM integrity.
- Review fundraising analytics and performance reports.
- Develop fundraising dashboards and executive reports.
- Ensure timely gift acknowledgments and donor communications.
- Maintain compliance with fundraising regulations and ethical standards.
Leadership & Staff Supervision
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and evaluation for Development Department personnel.
- Supervise the Marketing & Communications Manager to ensure all marketing initiatives align with organizational fundraising priorities.
- Coordinate integrated fundraising and marketing campaigns.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to establish organizational development priorities.
- Foster a collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on fundraising excellence.
Marketing Oversight
Working through the Marketing & Communications Manager, the Director of Development will oversee fundraising-related:
- Digital marketing campaigns
- Email marketing initiatives
- Website fundraising content
- Social media fundraising campaigns
- Donor newsletters
- Annual reports
- Campaign branding
- Impact storytelling
- Public relations supporting fundraising
- Photography and video projects supporting donor engagement
Financial Management
- Develop and manage the Development Department budget.
- Monitor fundraising return on investment.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual fundraising reports.
- Analyze fundraising performance and recommend improvements.
Board Relations
- Support the Board of Directors in fundraising activities.
- Assist Development Committee meetings.
- Prepare fundraising reports for Board meetings.
- Engage Board members in donor cultivation and fundraising strategies.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
- Attend evening and weekend fundraising events as needed.
- Represent the Foundation professionally throughout the community.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree preferred in: Business Administration

Equivalent nonprofit leadership experience may substitute for formal education.
Preferred Experience
- Five or more years of progressive nonprofit fundraising leadership.
- Demonstrated success securing major gifts.
- Successful grant writing and grant management experience.
- Experience managing multimillion-dollar fundraising portfolios.
- Experience leading capital campaigns and annual giving campaigns.
- Experience supervising fundraising and marketing professionals.
- Experience working with nonprofit Boards of Directors.
- CRM/database management experience (Salesforce, Bloomerang, Blackbaud, DonorPerfect, or similar).
- Experience developing corporate sponsorships and foundation partnerships.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel locally throughout Central Texas.

Contract Position
AAYHF offers a competitive compensation package based on experience, including:
- Starting Salary $65,000.00 / Funding Availability
- The Position Request a Minimum of 40 Hours A Week, In Office –
