Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Seymour Midwest is a family-owned, global supplier to the hand-tools market. We are currently seeking a Maintenance Technician to play a key role in helping guarantee that our products meet the high standards of those who use our tools every day by ensuring that our equipment and facilities are well maintained and contribute to a safe and cost-effective production and work environment.
Summary
The Maintenance Technician will manage all maintenance functions of the facility including maintenance systems, as well as modification, improvement and repair projects. In addition, they will lead the plant’s electrical, mechanical, and facility maintenance activities to ensure the safest, most efficient, and productive facility. This role will also oversee and supervise the wood fired boiler. This position will have significant and frequent interaction with our Seymour, Indiana location and its leadership and maintenance team.
The Maintenance Technician is a hourly position that will manage all maintenance functions and boiler operations at our Sequatchie Facility.
Key Responsibilities:
General and Task Management
· Schedule both internal and external work maximizing planned downtime to reduce unplanned downtime.
· Ensure equipment is maintained by scheduling Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule and input PPMs into Company software.
· Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems.
· Develop systems to capture downtime & mean time between failures for critical work centers/equipment, interfacing with production supervisors, team leaders and engineering, driving corrective action as required.
· Ensure routine calibration and maintenance requirements for a variety of electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are performed.
· Provide technical expertise to the team.
· Identify equipment improvement opportunities for the site.
· Oversee the boiler operations including scheduling for peak/nonpeak times and ensure availability for boiler maintenance and issues.
· Manage contractors on site to ensure they meet legal and company requirements.
· Ensure the department operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety of team members and contractors.
· Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization.
People Management
· Review, implement and update company records through the use of annual reviews, frequent feedback, and training software.
· Monitor the completion of tasks, ensure good performance, and record on maintenance systems.
· Supervision of boiler operators (1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift) to ensure boiler operations are scheduled 24/7 when necessary.
· On call 24/7 for electrical, mechanical and technical help needed in the boiler.
Financial and Budget Control
· Prepare and develop estimates for projects to determine the best approach and provide justification for expenditures.
Relationship Management
· Interact with team members and cooperate with other functional areas to complete projects in a timely manner.
· Provide technical knowledge to facility personnel on troubleshooting failures and repairs, causes of equipment downtime, and solutions to the failures.
· Coordinate and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers and other service providers.
· Work as part of the site management to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities.

· Excellent project management skills including project planning, coordination and follow-through to complete maintenance projects in a timely manner.
· Strong organizational, problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills to effectively manage and execute projects.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with, lead, and influence team members at multiple levels of the organization.
· Proficient computer skills in MS Office and maintenance software applications.
· Able to read blueprints, specifications and schematics.
· Knowledge in PLC’s, pneumatics hydraulics, 3-phase electricity, welding, wood-fired steam generating boilers, boiler water and chemical systems, and the ability to read hydraulic prints and calipers is a plus. Familiarity with maintenance software also a plus.
· Ability to function in a fast-paced, team environment.
Qualifications and Experience Levels:
· Experience working in a manufacturing and production environment.
· Minimum of three-years progressive experience in factory maintenance, plant engineering or equivalent experience.
Physical Demands:
· Ability to sit or stand for sustained periods of time to perform maintenance on a variety of equipment.
· Frequent standing and walking to move about the facility to gain updates on all maintenance projects.
· Finger dexterity sufficient to complete maintenance and assigned computer work.
· Visual acuity sufficient to read written materials, to complete paperwork activities and to operate equipment within the department.
· Hearing must be sufficient to communicate with individuals in person and by telephone.
Work Environment: Duties will be a mix between heated and cooled office space, and a heated only production environment.
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
