The duties described below are indicative of what the Wastewater Crewman may be asked to perform; duties may be changed with or without notice.
- Performing scheduled maintenance and repairs.
- Diagnosing and repairing water and wastewater lines.
- Diagnosing and repairing wastewater pumps and equipment.
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation of work orders and repairs.
- Adheres to all safety rules regarding confined space and trenching as related to field.
- Cross-trains in other areas of the City; as appropriate.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
PREFERRED
- TCEQ Class “D” or higher Wastewater Operator License (see below).
Please note; that if hired without a Class “D” or higher Wastewater License; it must be obtained within the following timeframes:
- TCEQ Class “D” Wastewater Operator License (if hired without; must be obtained within the first year of employment).
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to maintain a professional manner when dealing with the public.
- Ability to be on emergency call duty for the wastewater plant and Lift Stations.
- Ability to comprehend; retain and apply city and state policies and legislation; i.e. city ordinances; and procedure manuals.
- Ability to operate various types of equipment: hand tools; chain saw; mowers and weed-eaters.
REASONING ABILITIES
- Ability to respond to complaints and grievances posed by the public.
- Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations.
- Ability to think quickly; maintain self-control and adapt to stressful situations.
- Ability to use good judgement and effectively problem-solve.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff; supervisor; and the public.
- Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate basic mathematical calculations (addition; subtraction; multiplication; division).

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
- Facial hair must be maintained to properly wear self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA); full and half-piece air purifying respirators and other job-specific safety equipment; and to pass a SCBA fit test throughout employment.
- The duties of this job may include physical activities such as balancing; stooping; kneeling; crouching; standing; walking pushing; pulling; lifting grasping; feeling; talking; hearing/listening; seeing/observing; bending/twisting and performing repetitive motions.
- The duties of this job require lifting of heavy objects weighing approximately 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close; distant and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
