POSITION SUMMARY:
The One-on-One Educational Aide provides individualized support to a student with academic, behavioral, or physical needs. This role ensures the student’s safety, engagement, and success in the classroom and other school environments. The aide works closely with teachers, special education staff, and parents to implement educational plans and provide personalized assistance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Educational Aide permit with ESEA Endorsement.
- Experience working with Special Needs children preferred
- Must have or be willing to complete appropriate training including Crisis Prevention Training.
- Experience working with children in a classroom or educational setting is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of classroom instructional strategies, child development, and learning styles.
- Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities and backgrounds.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Ability to motivate and engage students.
- Patience, flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude toward student learning and development.
- Demonstrate professionalism and the ability to work effectively with staff, students, and the administration.
- Must have a successful drug test
- Must have successful BCI and FBI background checks
- Adhere to Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work directly with a designated student to provide academic, behavioral, and social support.
- Assist the student in following classroom routines, completing assignments, and accessing learning materials.
- Implement accommodations and modifications outlined in the student’s IEP or 504 plan.
- Monitor and support the student’s behavior using positive reinforcement strategies and interventions as directed by the teacher or Special Education Director.
- Reinforce instruction provided by the classroom teacher or special education staff.
- Provide additional explanation, practice, or guidance on academic concepts as needed.
- Encourage skill development, independence, and participation in classroom activities.
- Assist the student in developing social, communication, and self-regulation skills.
- Help the student navigate interactions with peers and adults respectfully and safely.
- Record observations and progress related to the student’s behavior, academics, and social development.
- Assist the student in participating in group activities and school events.
- Support students with physical disabilities or medical needs, including mobility assistance, toileting, and feeding.
- Ensure the student’s safety during classroom activities, transitions, and recess.
- Support classroom management by helping the student remain focused, on-task, and safe.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, therapists, and parents to support student progress.
- Communicate concerns or incidents promptly and professionally.
- May work with individuals with behavioral disabilities who display aberrant behaviors.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with FERPA.
- Adhere to district policies on ethics, conduct, and confidentiality.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Special Education Director or Superintendent.
- *Position is dependent upon student status remaining in the Girard City School District and the conditions of his/her IEP. (Individualized Education Program)
Pay: $14.87 - $17.72 per hour
