Position Summary
We are a private TK-8 school feeding 100-200 students weekday lunch. You are a Dish/Prep Cook who can support daily food prep and kitchen operations. This role involves chopping, light cooking, dish washing, and kitchen cleanliness; working closely with the lead cook to ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils; keep the dish station organized and running smoothly
- Wash, peel, chop, and prepare fruits, vegetables, and other ingredients according to instructions
- Follow recipes and assist with cooking tasks (e.g., sautéing, boiling, assembling dishes) under supervision
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards (handwashing, proper food storage, allergen awareness)
- Help receive, unpack, and store food deliveries
- Keep kitchen floors and surfaces clear during service
- Support the cook with any other prep or kitchen tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Previous kitchen, food service, or dish washing experience preferred but not required
- Comfortable using kitchen tools (knives, cutting boards, cooking equipment) safely
- Able to follow instructions and work well as part of a small team
- Punctual, dependable, and able to stay on your feet for extended periods
- Food handler's certification (or willingness to obtain one) may be required
- Must pass a background check, as required for school employment
- Conversational English a plus
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 11am-2pm, following the school calendar. One to two evening shifts each month.
Salary is $19-23/hr; paid sick leave in accordance with California state law; meals provided during shift
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work near hot surfaces and kitchen equipment
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
