Shift Lead — Event Catering Staff
Location: Twin Cities Area, MN
Job Type: Part-time / Full-time, Event-Based (W-2, Seasonal)
Pay: $22.00–$25.00/hour, based on experience
About the Role
Shift Leads run the floor during backstage catering events — managing the team, keeping service on schedule, and serving as the main point of contact between staff and the Chef. We're building a team of shift leads for events in the Twin Cities area.
Training
Full training provided — including our service standards, rider and menu procedures, and how we run a show day from setup through breakdown. Prior leadership experience is required; you don't need prior experience with our specific systems.
Schedule
Shifts are scheduled through Connecteam as events are booked. Because this is event-based work, your schedule will vary week to week rather than following a fixed weekly shift. We typically staff 4–7 events per month, with notice ranging from a couple of weeks to just a few days out depending on the tour. Shifts typically run 7–8 hours, often with a 15-minute handoff overlap between AM and PM leads. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary; the more available you are in Connecteam, the more shifts you'll be offered.
What You'll Do
- Oversee room setup, buffet line configuration, and breakdown for each meal service
- Manage servers and runners during their shift — assign side work, monitor pacing, and keep service on schedule
- Make real-time staffing decisions (e.g., cutting staff early when it's slow) and communicate those decisions directly to the Chef
- Read and apply rider requirements and dietary restrictions to daily service
- Handle guest and talent interactions requiring judgment — enforcing professionalism, privacy, and no-photo policies among staff
- Conduct a clean handoff briefing with the incoming Shift Lead at shift change
- Take inventory of stations at load-out and confirm the site is fully broken down before releasing staff
What We're Looking For
- Prior experience in a lead, supervisor, or management role in food service, catering, or hospitality
- Strong communication skills and comfort making decisions under time pressure
- Ability to manage a small team and keep a service running smoothly with minimal oversight
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to shifts once accepted
- Food handler's certification a plus, not required
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods (up to a full shift)
- Able to lift and carry up to 25–40 lbs as needed
- Able to work in a fast-paced, physically active environment
Perks
- Meals provided on-site during shifts
- Mileage reimbursement when using a personal vehicle for approved errands
- Opportunity to lead events with touring artists and crews
