Role Summary
ODME Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the MATRIX CHAT team under the CB-ISEA contract with NIWC PAC.
This role supports the deployment, sustainment, automation, and modernization of software systems operating in operational Navy environments. The environment includes a mix of traditional VM-based deployments and modern Kubernetes/container-based platforms, requiring engineers who are comfortable working across both legacy and modern infrastructure approaches.
The engineer will support automated VM image development, deployment into VMware/vSphere environments, Kubernetes-based application delivery, and integration within restricted and shipboard environments.
The emphasis is on reliable software delivery, operational readiness, automation, troubleshooting, and hands-on execution in real DoD lab and fleet environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and support VM-based and containerized deployments for MATRIX CHAT Contribute to automated VM image creation using tools such as Packer or similar automation frameworks Support Kubernetes-based deployments using technologies such as:
- Helm
- Kustomize
- ArgoCD and/or Flux
- Support Git-based CI/CD and deployment workflows Deploy and configure VM templates within VMware vSphere / vCenter environments
- Support deployment within CANES backbone constraints and disconnected or air-gapped environments
- Produce deployable VM templates, configuration artifacts, Helm charts, and operator-ready deployment packages
- Support App Arsenal deployment paths and software distribution workflows as required
Assist with cross-system chat integration, including MATRIX- MAKO bridging (IRC-based) Troubleshoot Windows and Linux systems across application, infrastructure, and deployment boundaries Support deployment validation, staging, rollback, integration testing, and operational execution
- Support shipboard testing, operational exercises, and RIMPAC execution activities Work within Agile and DevSecOps environments to track readiness, improve deployment reliability, and mitigate operational risk Produce clear technical documentation to support operators, administrators, and sustainment teams
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience building and deploying VM images in vSphere / vCenter environments
- Active DoD Security Clearance
- Active Security+ Certification
- Desired / Bonus Skills
- Ability to operate independently under schedule pressure tied to fixed milestones
- Experience troubleshooting Windows and Linux environments
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts (Terraform or similar)
- Experience operating in air-gapped or restricted network environments
- Familiarity with CANES deployment environments
- Strong communication skills and experience working in Agile environments
- Existing CAC, NIWC badge, and LDAP account
- Exposure to containerized systems (Kubernetes, K3s, ArgoCD)
