Job Description
Position: Assistant Thrift Store Manager
Reports to: Thrift Barn Manager
Job Summary
Supports the Thrift Barn Manager in leading daily retail, donation and warehouse operations. Oversees employees, volunteers, inventory flow, customer service, safety, and store procedures. Serves as Acting Manager when the Thrift Barn Manager is absent.
Responsibilities
1. Assist Thrift Store Manager with all daily operations of the Thrift Store, including, but not limited to retail sales, donations, warehouse activities, cash handling, deposits, point-of-sale procedures and store security.
2. Provide direction, supervision and support to staff and volunteers to ensure accuracy, accountability, and efficient store operations.
3. Assist with preparing weekly staff schedules and monitor volunteer schedules.
4. Assign work, adjust staffing, monitor productivity, and communicate daily priorities.
5. Maintain an efficient flow of donations through processing, pricing, display, storage, recycling, or disposal.
6. Maintain a safe, organized warehouse and donation area with clear aisles, secure stacking, and properly separated merchandise.
7. Assist with recruiting, training, coaching, and developing employees and volunteers.
8. Coordinate donation volume, warehouse capacity, pickups, deliveries, and large-item movement with appropriate staff.
9. Assist with routine customer and operational concerns and promptly report serious safety, personnel, policy, or cash-related incidents.
10. Ensure Steps to HOPE informational materials are available and appropriately displayed throughout the store.
11. Assist with guidance, counseling, and assist with discipline to staff as necessary with proper documentation.
12. Serve as Acting Thrift Barn Manager during the Manager’s absence, making immediate operational, personnel, and safety decisions. Consult the Executive Director and Human Resources regarding nonurgent long-term staffing, compensation, policy, or termination decisions.
13. Works with the store manager planning topics to be discussed in staff meetings.
14. Model respectful, professional, trauma-informed communication and enforce organizational policies.
15. Perform other duties assigned by the Thrift Barn Manager or Executive Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. High school diploma or GED required.
2. Knowledge of retail and warehouse operations, including, but not limited to, merchandising, inventory and donation flow, point-of-sale systems, cash handling, and safety practices.
3. Ability to provide hands-on leadership to staff and volunteers, including assigning and prioritizing work, providing training and direction, giving constructive feedback, and addressing performance concerns as appropriate.
4. Strong organizational, communication, customer service, interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
5. Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and teamwork while assisting wherever needed to support daily Thrift Store operations.
6. Basic computer, mathematical, and recordkeeping skills.
7. Ability to work effectively and respectfully with employees, volunteers, customers, donors, and community members from varied backgrounds.
8. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities, work independently, exercise good judgment, and adapt to changing needs in a busy retail environment.
9. Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, including prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, pivoting, and kneeling.
10. Regularly lifting, carrying, or pulling items up to 50 pounds; and assisting with the safe movement of furniture and other heavy or bulky items weighing 100 pounds or more using another person and/or appropriate equipment. Employees are expected to request assistance whenever an item cannot be moved safely.
11. Ability to work most Saturdays.
Pay: $46,000.00 - $49,000.00 per year
