Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused CDL Class A Truck Driver to transport structural steel products from our fabrication shop to job sites and customer locations. The ideal candidate has experience hauling oversized/heavy loads, understands load securement practices, and is comfortable working closely with shop and field crews to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate company-owned tractor-trailers (flatbeds, step decks, or similar equipment) for the transportation of structural steel
- Load, secure, transport, and unload steel materials in compliance with DOT and company safety regulations
- Inspect loads to ensure proper weight distribution and securement using chains, binders, straps, and tarps as required
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report and document any maintenance or safety issues
- Deliver materials to construction sites, steel erectors, and customers in a timely and professional manner
- Assist with loading and unloading when needed, including working with forklifts or cranes (as directed)
- Maintain accurate logs, delivery paperwork, and compliance documentation (ELD usage required)
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, shop personnel, and customers regarding delivery schedules and issues
- Follow all federal, state, and local driving laws and regulations (DOT/FMCSA compliance)
- Represent the company professionally with customers and on job sites
Experience
- Valid CDL Class A license with clean driving record
- Minimum 2–3 years of commercial driving experience (flatbed/heavy haul preferred)
- Experience hauling structural steel, oversized loads, or construction materials strongly preferred
- Knowledge of proper load securement (chains, binders, edge protection, tarping)
- Ability to read delivery tickets, job orders, and basic shipping paperwork
- Must pass DOT physical, drug screening, and background check
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings or occasional overtime
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and secure heavy materials (often 50–75 lbs or more)
- Climb on trailers and loads to secure cargo
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Stand, bend, and perform physical labor as needed
- Ability to operate a forklift
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
