American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Stepdown/Medical-Surgical night shift travel assignment at a Level 1 Trauma facility in West Virginia, requiring telemetry strip reading ability and a minimum of 2 years of RN experience.

7 West is a combined Stepdown and Medical-Surgical floor unit with 32 total beds (12 Stepdown, 20 Floor)

Patient population includes chest pain, COPD, altered mental status, pneumonia, UTI, abdominal pain, overflow from various services, and GIP Hospice
-
Stepdown nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3; Floor ratio is 1:4–6

Stepdown patients may have titratable drips; Floor patients receive PCAs, heparin, and similar set-rate infusions

Telemetry is present on the unit; RNs are required to read strips in conjunction with telemetry monitor techs who continuously monitor

Respiratory therapy manages ventilators, CPAP, and BiPAP equipment

Unit is supported by a dedicated free charge nurse and an always-available House Supervisor; 4 nurse aides when fully staffed

Shift is 12 hours, nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)

Two weekends required per schedule

Travelers may be floated to any floor or stepdown unit within the hospital

EMR is Epic
-
Active WV RN license or valid Compact RN license required
-
BLS certification required
-
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
-
Ability to read telemetry/EKG strips required
-
Experience in a Stepdown or Medical-Surgical acute care setting required
-
Level 1 Trauma facility experience relevant to this acute care environment

Epic EMR experience preferred

A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
-
Provide nursing care to a mixed Stepdown and Medical-Surgical patient population, including monitoring telemetry and managing drips in the Stepdown setting

Royal blue scrubs are required
-
Holiday coverage is worked into the permanent staff holiday rotation
-
COVID vaccination is required; medical or religious exemptions may be requested by submitting the appropriate exemption form for review and approval

Any RN who has previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being eligible to apply
-
Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must take a 2-year break before returning
