Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Therapist Intern (Qualified Mental Health Professional - QMHP) to join our dynamic mental health team. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in clinical counseling, behavioral therapy, crisis intervention, and patient assessment within a supportive environment dedicated to client well-being. As a Therapist Intern, you will work closely with licensed professionals to deliver evidence-based mental health services across diverse populations, including children, adolescents, and adults. Your role will be vital in supporting treatment planning, documentation standards, and patient care while developing your skills in various therapeutic modalities.
Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting comprehensive mental health assessments and patient evaluations utilizing clinical documentation standards and ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases) systems such as ICD-9 and ICD-10.
- Instructing Intensive Outpatient Programs and Day Treatment.
- Support the delivery of individual, group, and family therapy sessions using evidence-based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and behavioral therapy.
- Participate in crisis management and crisis intervention efforts to ensure client safety and stability during acute episodes.
- Collaborate with licensed clinicians on treatment planning, case management, and patient progress documentation within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
- Engage in research activities related to mental health interventions, treatment outcomes, and clinical research projects to enhance therapeutic approaches.
- Contribute to patient care by assisting with intake procedures, medical terminology clarification, and medical records management while adhering to HIPAA regulations and clinical ethical guidelines.
- Support specialized services such as child & youth therapy, autism spectrum disorder interventions, addiction counseling, grief counseling, or geriatrics as needed.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited program in social work, MFT or professional counseling.
- Experience working with all individuals.
- Knowledge of psychotherapy techniques including motivational interviewing, behavioral management strategies, trauma-focused therapy, and evidence-based practices.
- Familiarity with crisis intervention protocols and experience working with individuals with co-occurring disorders is advantageous.
- Ability to demonstrate strong clinical documentation skills aligned with medical documentation standards and treatment planning requirements.
- Telehealth experience is a plus; must be comfortable utilizing telehealth platforms for remote therapy sessions.
- Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines and upholding clinical ethical standards throughout all activities.
