The North Branch Area High School Technology Departments is looking for a Technology Help Desk Secretary. This is a 12 month, part-time position.
1. POSITION OVERVIEW & PURPOSE
The Technology Help Desk Secretary provides primary Tier 1 troubleshooting, phone support, user account
administration, and technology help desk dispatching for staff and students across North Branch Area Public
Schools. Reporting to the Director of Technology, this position manages the district help desk tickets, processes
department purchase orders, coordinates district technology inventory, assists with the configuration of digital
devices, and ensures clear communication between the technology team and end-users.
2. WHAT YOU WILL DO (KEY RESPONSIBILITIES)
Tier 1 Technology Help Desk Support (35%): Provide Tier 1 technical support for district staff via phone, remote
access, or face-to-face. Perform basic network administration, including password resets and permissions.
Resolve common hardware/software issues, dispatch escalated tickets, coordinate phone systems, and stage
digital devices for deployment.
Secretarial Support & E-Rate Reporting (30%): Provide general secretarial support to the Director and
department staff. Process purchase orders, monitor budget reports, handle shipping/receiving, and assist with
E-rate funding applications and reporting.
Software Application Support & Staff Training (20%): Assist staff with operating systems (ChromeOS, Windows,
Mac), student information systems (SIS), email, and learning management systems (LMS). Assist with training
new and existing staff on equipment and software, and maintain accurate hardware inventory records.
Digital Device Assets, Configuration & Computer Re-Imaging [10%]: Assist in setting up digital devices,
configuring user profiles, downloading software applications, and staging devices for staff or student
deployment. Assist technology specialists in re-imaging desktop and laptop computers. Assist Viking IT student
Chromebook repair program by performing initial triage, conducting basic hardware repairs, and coordinating warranty service for damaged devices. Maintain hardware inventory records for district technology assets,
including computers, printers, mobile devices, switches, and AV equipment.
Technical Problem Solving (5%): Assist district staff in identifying and developing technology solutions to meet
classroom and administrative needs.
3. PRIMARY POSITION OUTCOMES
Projects a positive, respectful attitude; delivers rapid Tier 1 support to minimize downtime; and maintains
accurate user accounts, device inventory, and E-rate compliance.
4. WHAT YOU BRING (QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS)
Education; Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Customer service/helpdesk experience
required. Computer training or secretarial experience preferred.
Licensure & Competencies: Entry-level technical certifications preferred. Requires strong troubleshooting,
multi-line phone communication, effective human relations, and software application proficiency.
5. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
- Decision-Making & Autonomy: Uses experience, past practice, and district tech procedures to resolve
problems independently; refers complex network/hardware issues to the Director or senior tech specialists.
- Physical Effort: Extended sitting and repetitive computer/phone operation; occasional stooping to reach file
drawers and lifting up to 25 lbs of paper, mail, or computer hardware.
- Working Environment: Standard professional office and helpdesk environment .
- Mental Effort: Requires excellent communication skills, analyzing technical data, multi-tasking under time
pressure, maintaining composure despite constant interruptions, and logically presenting technical information.
- Supervision Responsibilities: Does not supervise regular staff; may provide task direction to student workers
North Branch Area Public Schools is a growing district, enrolling approximately 2,700 students and is located 40 minutes north of the Twin Cities on Interstate 35.
