POSITION OVERVIEW
The Interior Designer position is responsible for development, implementation, and creation of project design concepts for assigned projects. The successful integration of this role into the team structure is essential to provide design and production support to all essential functions of the design studio.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
DESIGN
- Improve eye for color, texture, and pattern – growing knowledge of durability standards, installation, and construction methods, etc.
- Sharpen knowledge of contract hospitality sourcing and local sales representatives - direct coordination with vendors
- Select interior finishes and furnishings, communicating with manufacturer representatives to research material selection costs and specification information to ensure appropriate selections are made for the project budget with the guidance of design leadership
- Sharpen technical knowledge for creating specifications and installation coordination of FF&E furnishings, decorative lighting, and other related interior design contract documents
- Sharpen knowledge of hotel standards, fire codes, and ADA accessibility requirements for interiors
- Develop content and layouts for digital design presentations (pinups, drawings, 3D Massing, sketch studies, illustrations, models, PDF plans, FF&E and concept imagery presentations and material palettes) with direction from design leadership
- Create finish, plumbing, and other schedules with direction from design leadership
- Write FF&E and finish specifications using DesignSpec with direction from design leadership
- Prepare front-end documents for Brand submittals, issue documents following brand process, and coordinate submittal responses (as needed)
- Assemble project specification binders
- Collaborate on assigned projects from conceptual design through construction administration with direction from design leadership
- Participate in onsite field measures with senior design team member (as needed)
- Assemble interior finish boards and presentation materials using InDesign software
- Research and develop concept direction and narrative with guidance from design leadership
- Review finish submittals, RFI’s and shop drawings. *Final review will be made by design leadership.
- Develop presentation skills in small and large group settings and/or via virtual conference calls with our team, vendors, or clients when appropriate
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
- Review Project Tracker for work assigned and enter tasks as completed
- Effectively utilize time tracking software (Resource Manager), meet target utilization rates, and possess a moderate understanding of project profitability
- Maintain day-to-day correspondence with internal and external sources as required
- Model a highly organized approach to the design process resulting in on time, on budget deliverables
- Collaborate with senior design management to coordinate communication such as: meeting minutes, email documentation, and transmittals
- Manage multiple priorities while consistently achieving high standards and goals
- Create project budgets in DesignSpec software program and Excel with direction and guidance from design leadership
- Correspond and coordinate with consultants (lighting, operation, and technical) and assist in the VE (value engineering) process with guidance from design leadership NOTE: Project Manager will be responsible for the technical oversight of the project
- Understand, implement, and refine processes to reduce risks and exposure to the firm
- Demonstrate leadership skills
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION | LICENSING | EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design (required)
- NCIDQ (in progress) desirable
- LEED-AP (in progress) desirable
- State Licensure (Florida) (preferred)
- Hotel design experience (2 years preferred)
COMPUTER PROGRAMS
- Revit (intermediate proficiency)
- AutoCAD (2 years’ experience, intermediate proficiency)
- Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop & InDesign (intermediate proficiency)
- Google Sketch-up and/or Enscape (intermediate proficiency)
- Microsoft Office (intermediate proficiency)
- DesignSpec (desirable)
HOSPITALITY | INTERIOR DESIGN
