Tax Manager CPA
Location: Frisco, TX
Job Type: Full time
Compensation: $120,000 to $160,000
Industry: Public Accounting
Lead the clients. Protect the quality. Leave business development to the Partners.
A lot of Tax Manager roles follow the same pattern.
You take on more clients, more deadlines, and more responsibility.
Then, eventually, you are also expected to start selling.
This opportunity is set up differently.
A well run independent CPA firm in Frisco is hiring a Tax Manager to take ownership of an established client portfolio worth around $1 million.
The Partners handle business development themselves.
That means your focus stays where it should be: leading client relationships, reviewing quality work, managing delivery, and supporting the team.
For someone who enjoys being a strong client leader but has no interest in being pushed into sales, that is a meaningful difference.
Real ownership from the beginning
You will not spend months waiting for the role to become what was promised.
You will step into an established portfolio and become the main point of contact for those clients from day one.
The work is focused on review, sign off, planning, and relationship management rather than constant preparation.
You will have the authority to keep work moving, maintain standards, and make sure clients receive the level of service they expect.
The Partners remain hands on and accessible, but they are not looking over your shoulder or adding unnecessary layers to every decision.
Why this opportunity stands out
You will take ownership of a client portfolio worth around $1 million from the start.
Your role will focus on review, sign off, planning, and client leadership.
There are no business development expectations.
The Partners are direct, decisive, and involved when needed.
The team is calm, organised, and built around consistent delivery.
You will work with long standing clients and an established flow of work.
Your contribution will be visible in a firm of around 20 people.
What you will be doing
Review and sign federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, and businesses
Lead client relationships and act as the main point of contact for your portfolio
Manage workflow, deadlines, and review quality across the team
Coach and develop Seniors and Preparers
Support the Partners on more complex technical and planning matters
Identify opportunities to improve service, efficiency, and communication
Keep delivery organised during busy periods without creating unnecessary chaos
What the firm is looking for
A CPA with strong public accounting tax experience
A current Tax Manager, or a highly experienced Senior ready to step up
Confidence reviewing tax work and leading client relationships
Someone comfortable taking responsibility for a substantial client portfolio
A steady leader who values quality, ownership, and clear communication
Someone who wants to focus on client service rather than sales or business development
Who this role could suit
This could be a strong move for a Tax Manager who enjoys the technical, client, and leadership sides of the job but does not want their future progression tied to bringing in new business.
You may already be trusted with important clients but feel too much of your time is being pulled toward internal targets and sales expectations.
You may simply want a smaller firm where decisions happen quickly and the work is organised properly.
Either way, this role gives you the chance to operate at a senior level without being asked to become something you are not.
Why now is a smart time to explore it
Most people do not change firms in the middle of a deadline.
But this is often when they decide what they want the next year to look like.
Starting the conversation now gives you time to understand the portfolio, meet the Partners, and make a considered move.
It also gives you the chance to settle in before the 9/15 and 10/15 deadlines return.
You could enter that period with an established client base, clear expectations, and the support to do the job properly.
That is a very different position from starting under pressure and trying to work everything out as you go.
