POSITION SUMMARY: The Asphalt Field Technician is responsible for monitoring and testing the production and placement of asphalt mix to ensure compliance with project specifications and C.J. Miller, LLC standards. This role involves on-site testing, sampling, and lab analysis, and plays a critical part in maintaining quality and safety standards on job sites and at asphalt plants.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Perform density testing on various C.J. Miller job sites
Sample asphalt mixes at plants and job sites
Conduct visual inspections and laboratory tests in accordance with applicable specifications
Accurately record and maintain testing data and documentation
Communicate test results in a timely manner to supervisors and project teams
Assist crew members with various tasks as needed
Perform other duties as assigned

Competencies & requirements
Minimum of 2 years of experience in an asphalt field technician role or related field
Must pass a DOT physical and drug screening
Clean driving record with no major violations in the past 3 years
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a crew
Solid understanding of asphalt paving processes, including grades, compaction, mix designs, and site prep
Basic math skills for accurate computations
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Flexibility to work day or night shifts as needed
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required at all times

Ability to stand for extended periods
Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds without assistance
Work performed in outdoor construction environments, often in loud, dusty, or physically demanding conditions
Exposure to moving machinery, high places, airborne particles, and varying weather conditions
