Job Title: Lead Toddler Teacher Associate
Classification: Full Time 32 – 40 hrs/week / Hourly/ Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $19.60 to $25.95/hour, depending on experience and education
Schedule: Monday – Friday
Reports To: Early Childhood Education Director
Job Summary:
The Lead Toddler Teacher Associate supports the classroom by creating a caring and safe environment for the children and implements activities to improve the overall care and quality of education in conjunction with the Classroom Coordinator. The Lead Toddler Teacher Associate is the lead teacher in their classroom. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. A Lead Toddler Teacher Associate implements a quality educational program by developing positive relationships with the children and their parents while maintaining all Vermont Childcare Licensing requirements. The Lead Toddler Teacher Associate observes and documents children’s interests and progress, and relays that information back to parents and coworkers. The Lead Toddler Teacher Associate works closely with the Classroom Coordinator to make sure that the classroom runs smoothly and efficiently.
Essential Functions:
- Play!!!
- Implement curriculum activities and encourage participation by children.
- Provide developmentally appropriate supervision for all the children when counted in ratio.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and coworkers.
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, the Playground App, Parent Teacher Conferences, and newsletters.
- Help ensure a smooth, daily transition from home to child care center and back.
- Document observations and enter into Teaching Strategies Gold.
- Complete ASQs and other developmental trackers throughout the year.
- Use TSGs, ASQs and other developmental trackers to track children’s development, discuss referrals to additional services with parents, and plan the classroom curriculum.
- Make sure all required documentation and paperwork in the classroom including the details of a child’s activities throughout their day is completed. This includes but is not limited to: daily sign in sheets, food program, documenting all injuries and incidents and entering information into the Playground parent communication app.
- Sit with the children during meal times and model good eating habits.
- Maintain an Individual Professional Development Plan.
- Complete a minimum of 18 hours of training each year.
- Be flexible to help cover in other classrooms as necessary to maintain ratios and support other classrooms. This contributes to the overall success of the program, and helps create relationships with all children and coworkers.
- Attend SAPCC staff meetings and PlayWorks Staff Development Days.
- Support SAPCC’s mission and sustainability by participating in organizational fundraising and community engagement efforts.
- Follow SAPCC Employee Handbook, Center policies and procedures, state regulations, and PlayWorks Protocols and Procedures document.
- Any additional tasks assigned by the Director or Classroom Coordinator.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry small children, move classroom supplies, and engage in active play. Requires frequent sitting, kneeling, crouching, or crawling to interact with children, and the ability to stay on feet for extended periods while supervising activities indoors and outdoors.
Qualifications:
- At least 1-year experience working with children under the age of 6 years old.
- Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education. A minimum of 21 credits in Early Childhood Education required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Be able to give and receive feedback in your work environment.
