K-8 Spanish Teacher (2026-27 School Year)
Overview
Oak Hill School in Eugene, Oregon, seeks a full-time K-8 Spanish Teacher for the 2026–27 school year. Located on 72 beautiful, forested acres, Oak Hill School nurtures each student by cultivating a love of learning, encouraging them to think deeply and explore boldly. Through hands-on experiential learning, students discover the world around them and grow into individuals who care deeply for others.
Oak Hill is a PreK–8 independent school community rooted in belonging, academic depth, and joyful discovery. The Spanish Teacher plays an essential role in helping students develop language proficiency, cultural understanding, and global awareness through engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction.
Major Responsibilities
- Deliver a dynamic, developmentally appropriate Spanish curriculum for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade.
- Foster listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills through immersive and interactive instruction.
- Integrate Hispanic and Spanish-speaking cultures into classroom learning in meaningful and authentic ways.
- Create safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments where all students feel confident taking risks in language learning.
- Provide constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback; assess student learning and adjust instruction as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress; communicate expectations clearly with students and families.
- Meet classes as scheduled; arrange substitutes or assignments when absent and remain accessible to students and families through appropriate communication.
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate language learning into interdisciplinary and experiential opportunities when appropriate.
- Participate in required meetings, committees, professional development, and school-wide planning.
- Model professionalism, cultural respect, and positive engagement in all interactions.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, World Languages, Education, or a related field.
- Fluency in Spanish and strong English communication skills.
- Minimum of three years of teaching experience preferred, ideally in elementary and/or middle school settings.
- Knowledge of best practices in world language instruction, including communicative and proficiency-based approaches.
- Strong organizational skills, clear communication, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and a commitment to inclusive, student-centered practices.
