Overview
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Prototype Manager, the prototype welder is responsible for the building of the scheduled customer prototypes. These must be to the design and the required customer quality standards and to the required schedule. Constructing the required jigs/fixtures for this build that can be efficiently used in production. This includes working with designers to ensure that the design is correct.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyzing blueprints and designs
- Determine the correct pieces of metal according to the design
- Following all safety and health procedures to avoid accidents and hazards
- Choosing the best equipment to weld specific metals
- Identifying issues and hazards
- Operating angle grinders and other tools
- Set up specific metal components using calipers, rulers, tape measure for manufacturing
- Rework prototypes based on design changes
- Cut own materials when needed
- Working extra overtime to meet customer deadlines
- Ensure required quality is achieved
· Co-ordinate with the design team
· Build prototypes using sketches or samples
· Operate forklift as required
· Final assembly of the prototypes
· Provide feedback to designers on any issues
· Assist with FA/Jig building
REQUIREMENTS
- Post-Secondary education in a related field an asset
- Minimum of 3 yrs of experience in a related field
- Welding experience in a manufacturing environment
- Fabrication of jigs/fixtures an asset
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Desire to work as a team with a result driven approach Excellent time management skills
