Purpose:
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will have a hands-on approach repairing and maintaining mechanical systems, managing the design, development, implementation of mechanical systems and components ensuring they meet performance, safety and regulatory standards to meet the production schedule.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create mechanical designs and drawings, for rail car systems and components
- Lead the full project life cycle — from defining customer requirements through operation
- Provide process and measurement support for vehicle and engine testing, and support project
- Understand and manage system-level interactions between processes, equipment, and controls
- Work with other engineering disciplines, suppliers, purchasing, plant personnel, and remote manufacturing sites.
- Ensure designs and processes meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards
- Responsible for estimating damage repairs
- Prepare technical reports, plans, and documentation for design, testing, and maintenance
- Support QA in managing open items (as required) on rail cars at maintenance site.
- Provide engineering mechanical repairs for railcars and associated systems
- Oversee the welding and inspection process of rail cars
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Great organization, attention to detail and time management skills
- Knowledge of schematics, circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming is a plus
- Proficiency with computer-assisted design (CAD) software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to work collaboratively to identify solutions
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field required
- 10 years of related experience preferred
- Licensed Mechanical Engineer, State of NJ AWS Certified Weld Inspector preferred
- Familiarity working with carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel
Pay: $140,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
