POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY
As a vital part of the SLO Classical Academy team, MS Teachers are responsible for providing effective and engaging instruction in line with the classical tradition and unique qualities of the school. They are expected to be team players, sharing the responsibilities of developing engaged and prepared learners and thinkers, moving from grammarians to logicians.
JOB STRUCTURE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
● Exempt, full-time employee status
● Scheduled Days: Monday-Friday
● Attends staff meetings and required training
● Reports to the UMS Lead Teacher
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
● Except under unique circumstances, teaching credentials and/or equivalent work experience required.
● Classically trained or educated is highly desirable.
● Education and/or 2 years experience in a specified area (level, subjects taught, etc.) required.
● Proficient in office applications (i.e., Google, Pages, Excel, etc.)
● Willing to learn about and support the mission of SLO Classical Academy.
● Demonstrates a passion for learning, teaching children and classical education; demonstrates skills in the area of instructing others.
● Willing to work with the teaching team to care holistically for each student ensuring their success - academic, emotional and social growth.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing Quality Education:
● Serve on our UMS team, providing both science and math instruction. Additionally, provide core support for our Full-Time program.
● Collaborate with the UMS teaching team to provide an enriching, thoughtful, and developmentally appropriate curriculum that incorporates the tenets of Classical Education at SLOCA
● Spend a reasonable amount of time out of class on curricula development, lesson planning, and preparing to provide in-class services
● Implement daily and weekly lesson plan activities that meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program
● Provide a safe environment and supervision at all times while creating a respectful and positive learning space
Collaborating with Families for Student Success:
● Attend necessary meetings such as Family Action Plans, ad hoc parent meetings, etc.
● Openly communicating with families about student progress and needs
● Responding to parent communication in a timely manner (no more than 48 hours)
● Provide detailed student feedback in weekly student work and trimesterly Progress Reports
Science + Math-Specific:
● Provide engaging, classical teaching in the subjects of science (7th + 8th grade science with yearly rotating subjects) and math (Pre-Algebra, Algebra)
● Seek points of connection between math/science and other subjects.
● Prioritize: ○ Classical methodology, such as inquiry and Socratic discussion
○ Collaborating with other Math + Science teachers
○ Hands-on learning opportunities, or learning opportunities that engage multiple senses

PHYSICAL DEMANDS*
Able to lift a minimum of 15 pounds on an occasional basis. Able to stand and move around for extended periods of time.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
