Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) is a 50+ year old multi-service not-for-profit organization based on the settlement house model and located in the Bronx. We provide resources for Bronx residents from cradle to career to advance education and well-being for a vibrant community. KHCC serves over 5,000 families annually with an inclusive environment for children with special needs, low-income families, recent immigrants, survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, and at-risk teens. Overview
Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Executive Team and Board of Directors, the Associate Director of Development & Events at KHCC is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing fundraising and development activities and operations to attract and engage new and existing donors, build new collaborations, partnerships and external strategic alliances with elected officials, foundations, and other stakeholders. The Associate Director identifies and cultivates new donors through targeted outreach and engages prospects through corporate volunteer opportunities, follow-up, and ongoing communication. Internally, the Associate Director builds collaborative and productive working relationships with agency leadership to fully understand the KHCC extended community and the goals, objectives, impacts and outcomes of programs and services. The Associate Director serves as a dynamic and passionate ambassador for KHCC and gathers nuanced data, client perspectives and community feedback to attract and sustain funders and donors.
In collaboration with the CEO, CPO, COO, senior program leaders and contractual grant writers, the Associate Director spearheads and oversees the agency’s “workflow “ for foundation and governmental funding proposals, applications, and reports, ensuring specific reports and proposals are assigned, drafted, and submitted timely and that all statuses are updated on the workflow spreadsheet regularly.
The Associate Director regularly prospects for new potential foundations for restricted (program-focused) and/or unrestricted funding opportunities, and drafts RFP summaries for more complicated RFP’s outlining key points and expectations for each proposal to assist in determining which RFPs KHCC will pursue. The Associate Director is responsible for the drafting, form completion, data and attachment gathering and submission of specific proposals based on the workflow assignments and assists with all aspects of proposal and report management.
The Associate Director is responsible for the coordination and submission of annual New York City and New York State discretionary government proposals and funding requests, and spearheads and/or assists in communication and meetings with all elected officials to explain, support and advocate for annual funding requests. The Associate Director seeks and engages in any collaborative fundraising opportunities, and participates in any membership requirements for these collaborations.
Working in close collaboration with the Board and the Executive Team and communications staff, the Associate Director is the primary planner and point person for all key fundraising events and initiatives including the annual gala, friends-raising events, corporate volunteer days, the annual end-of-year appeal and all other fund-raising initiatives and campaigns in the community and online. This work includes the use of planning tools and spreadsheets and the coordination of budgeting and expense tracking, site selection, invitations, technology, a/v, sponsorship, host committee ticket sales, honorees, food and beverages, decorations, entertainment, transportation and all other logistics and details as needed.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Funder Cultivation and Management
- Working collaboratively with the Board, the CEO and program and operational leadership, develop, execute, and manage an annual fundraising plan and calendar that includes clear goals, timelines, and success metrics for cultivating individual donors, corporations, foundations, and other entities and includes all fundraising events and campaigns for the fiscal year.
- Build, maintain, and increase individual donor fundraising and unrestricted giving for the Center; Set, meet and work to exceed annual goals for fundraising; Track and report progress regularly.
- Collaborate and communicate productively with program and operational leadership, the CEO, and the Board of Directors to identify and follow up on new donor and major gift prospects, develop plans for fundraising events etc.
- Cultivate and maintain excellent and productive working relationships with all members of the Executive and Leadership teams to advance funding, keep communication lines professional and collaborative, and support KHCC’s growth and expansion.
- Meet quarterly with divisional directors, and agency leaders to consistently identify funding needs and generate potential funding sources and foundations with aligned priorities.
- Schedule and coordinate monthly Board Development Committee Meetings, work closely with the committee chair to set the agenda, identify potential board actions and projects to ensure fundraising is central to board service; Ensure board members have the appropriate tools, information and data to successfully leverage their networks, advocate for KHCC and pitch potential donors.
Development Tracking, Data and Reporting
- Maintain all aspects of fundraising and donor using the Bloomerang system; Review system training tools to effectively produce reports and dashboard, complete all aspects of donor management, and ensure all data is and aligned with financial reports.
- Ensure that all donations via check, website, events, or DAF, are linked to appropriate donors in the system.
- Ensure every donor receives a thank you and acknowledgement letter within one week of the actual donation and every contact with every donor is logged into Bloomerang to ensure we have a record of interactions and most recent contact dates, donation dates etc.
- Draft semi-annual Development Reports for the January and June Board meetings – Work closely with the finance team to ensure that development reports for the Board align with financial reports and bookkeeping categories; Assist in ensuring proper grants administration for all proposals including government, foundation, and corporate awards.
- Prepare annual Board Member Engagement Reports (outlining “gives”, “gets”, meeting attendance, activity participation etc. for each board member)
Grant Writing and Grant Management
- Drafts RFP summaries for more complicated RFP’s outlining key points, requirements, and expectations for each proposal to assist leadership in determining which RFPs KHCC will pursue.
- Coordinate and lead the drafting and submission of annual government discretionary grants including NYC City Council (member items, speakers initiatives and delegation requests) the Borough President’s Office, and NYS State Assembly and Senate requests; Work collaboratively with staff to identify priority program funding needs in the late fall, develop one-pagers for budget meetings in the winter and spring with electeds outlining ask, and follow up as necessary.
- Assist the COO with capital requests and proposals as necessary.
- Spearhead specific foundation and/or corporate proposals, as assigned, and coordinate internal dialogue with program staff for proposal content.
Events and Volunteers
- Spearhead and coordinate all KHCC event-planning focused on fundraising and donor cultivation, including the annual benefit, and all other in-person and online fundraising events and campaigns; Maintain and update internal event planning project plans.
- Oversee the effective use of fundraising software (Bloomerang etc.); Coordinate data migration with support from other IT staff as needed; Work to build capacity, reports, functionality and interoperability with Salesforce, and other financial systems, as appropriate.
- Coordinate and implement corporate and community volunteering and funding development days/events including planning and management of Corporate Volunteer Days, community outreach events and other events agency-wide that include any potential donor cultivation.
- Using Bloomerang volunteer Associate Director component, ensure all volunteers complete event registration including all relevant contact information email phone, name, position etc., and conduct follow up to invite volunteers to donate or support KHCC in other ways.
- Prepare the annual development budget and spring gala event budget in close collaboration with finance with personal and agency fundraising goals and targets included for individual donors, corporate donors and major gifts etc.
- Complete other tasks and responsibilities consistent with the scope and purpose of the position, as required.
Required Skills:
- BA with 2+ years of nonprofit experience in development or fundraising.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, relationship- building and teamwork.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, project management, time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated success in cultivating partnerships and individual donors.
- Exceptional technical skills with Bloomerang, Canva, Excel, Google Suite, project and event management systems, and other fundraising apps.
- Demonstrated success in event planning, coordination, and implementation.
- Experience with Boards and Board members is a plus.
- Commitment to the vision, mission, and core values of KHCC.
- Candidate must be responsible, motivated, self-directed, detail-oriented, have the ability to work quickly, and consistently complete tasks well in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands:
- Light Work: Lifting 20 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job in this category when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls, or when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Pay: $78,000.00 - $84,000.00 per year
