Overview
The Triage Registered Nurse assures that communication with each caller will be handled in a professional and tactful manner. When appropriate, the caller’s symptoms will be assessed and triaged using the nursing process and approved guidelines in order to assist in obtaining the appropriate level of care and/or self-care advice. This position’s functions are supervised and updated based on the organizational needs of the clinic by the Nursing Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Uphold and support the mission, objectives and policies of Lakeview Clinic, Ltd.
- Respond promptly to all patient incoming communication including but not limited to telephone calls, electronic messages through EHR and faxes.
- Provide patient care appropriately identified using a thorough nursing assessment, application of approved protocols and consultation by a medical provider as required to safely meet the patient’s medical needs.
- When appropriate, provide home care instructions using the approved, written guidelines.
- Utilize all resources, guidelines and established care plans to assist with patient’s medical care through assessment, evaluation, advise or patient care instructions, schedule appointments, or refer calls when necessary to the appropriate personnel/provider.
- Thoroughly complete documentation utilizing Lakeview’s EHR in compliance with the approved policies and procedure in alignment with best practices.
- Actively participate in new employee orientation, ongoing in-service programs, staff meetings, continuous quality improvement, work groups, periodic performance/protocol development, implementation and evaluations and ongoing continuous skills assessments, training and education.
- Maintain current nursing licensure by completing applications for renewal in a timely manner and by complying with all requirements for continuing education. No nurse will be scheduled to work any shift if their nursing license has expired or has been revoked for any reason. It is the nurse’s responsibility to notify their supervisor immediately if their license status changes. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in termination of employment.
- Maintain current nursing skills and knowledge base by attendance at workshops and seminars, completion of mandatory continuing education, reading of professional journals, publications, and participation in professional organizations.
Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Minnesota.
- Minimum of three years recent clinical experience, preferably within triage.
- Participation in continuing education programs.
- Experience with nursing assessment, documentation, patient care advise and disposition through telephone and
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be current in CPR.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- An ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and coworkers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Identify barriers to current patient care workflows and actively participate in a resolution by providing improvement suggestions.
- Professional organizational abilities and documentation skills.
- Must be capable of making independent nursing decisions within your scope of practice.
- Delegation of tasks involving patient’s medical care to appropriate Clinical Nursing Staff.
- Must be able to work well under stress, prioritize work, provide support to patients, coworkers and providers by making adjustments quickly, frequently and as necessary related to providing exceptional patient medical care.
- Must have adequate typing skills and basic computer knowledge.
- The nurse must have good manual and finger dexterity, hearing and visual acuity and color distinction.
- The nurse must sit in front of a computer screen for prolonged periods of time.
- Performance of other nonessential duties may be requested by the supervisor.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, and speaking.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance if needed.
- Frequent use of computer, keyboard, phone, copy and fax machines.
Pay: $38.00 - $45.00 per hour
