Seasonal Pond Technician / Aquatic Field Specialist
Utah Water Gardens is hiring motivated individuals who love nature, enjoy working outdoors, and take pride in doing hard, meaningful work.
This is not a desk job. Our crews work in ponds, around water, across uneven terrain, and in changing weather conditions. The work can be physically demanding, wet, muddy, and occasionally involve long days. It can also be highly rewarding.
You will help clean, restore, maintain, and improve ponds and other aquatic environments throughout Utah while learning a specialized trade involving aquatic ecosystems, equipment, construction, maintenance, and customer service.
Compensation
Pay varies based on experience, applicable skills, and the amount of training required.
Someone with little or no pond experience may start at an entry-level rate but can advance quickly based on reliability, attitude, physical capability, leadership, problem-solving, and the ability to learn.
Experienced pond professionals, equipment operators, aquatic technicians, or divers may start at a higher rate that reflects their background and qualifications.
Position Type
This is a full-time, seasonal position with the opportunity to return in future seasons.
Our primary season generally runs from approximately March through November or December, depending on weather conditions. We are continuing to develop services that may create extended-season or year-round opportunities.
Positions AvailablePond Technician
Pond Technicians travel to job sites throughout Utah and perform a variety of pond and aquatic services, including:
- Pond cleaning and restoration
- Routine pond maintenance
- Aquatic weed and vegetation management
- Water-quality management
- Aquatic plant, fish, and koi care
- Pond pump, filtration, and aeration work
- Pond construction and renovation support
- Equipment operation
- Job-site setup and cleanup
- Professional customer communication
No previous pond experience is required for the right person. We are willing to train individuals who are dependable, physically capable, motivated, and interested in developing a specialized skill set.
Pond Dredging and Diving Technician
This position may include all Pond Technician responsibilities, along with opportunities to participate in specialty dredging and underwater projects.
Candidates with scuba-diving experience, relevant certifications, underwater work experience, or a strong interest in developing these skills may qualify for additional opportunities.
Specialty work may include:
- Underwater dredging and sediment removal
- Equipment and diffuser placement
- Underwater inspections
- Aquatic vegetation removal
- Suction hose operation
- Other specialty aquatic assignments
Diving assignments will be limited to individuals who possess the experience, qualifications, and comfort level required for the work.
Essential Physical and Working Requirements
Because much of our work takes place directly in or around ponds, the ability to swim and work safely around water is required.
Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
- Swimming and working in or around water
- Lifting and carrying approximately 50–75 pounds
- Standing and walking for extended periods
- Frequently bending, kneeling, reaching, pulling, pushing, and climbing
- Working across uneven, steep, muddy, wet, or slippery terrain
- Entering and exiting ponds and other bodies of water
- Handling pumps, hoses, tools, aquatic vegetation, and specialized equipment
- Working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, wind, and changing weather
- Working around mud, algae, insects, fish, plants, and organic debris
- Traveling to different job sites throughout Utah
- Completing occasional long workdays when necessary to finish a project correctly
- Scuba diving when assigned to qualified diving personnel

Employees may receive training and experience involving aquatic plant care, plant division and pruning, fish care, customer service, pumps, filtration, aeration, equipment operation, and water-quality management.
