Join Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) as a part-time faculty member in Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientific Thinkers
Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC), a comprehensive community college, is seeking
dedicated, qualified educators to join our part-time Adjunct Faculty pool for the Natural and Physical Sciences. We are building a continuous pipeline of applicants to teach fundamental college-level science courses at our Alberta (Christanna Campus), Keysville (John H. Daniel Campus), and South Boston (Southern Virginia Higher Education Center) locations, as well as through our Distance Learning/Online programs.
Adjunct faculty members share in the total responsibility for providing high-quality, student-centered instruction to a culturally and educationally diverse student population. Teaching assignments may include introductory, foundational, and advanced courses across the following disciplines:
- General Biology
- Human Anatomy & Physiology (A&P)
- Microbiology
- General Chemistry
- Physics
Duties & Responsibilities
- Instructional Delivery: Plan, organize, and teach courses using approved syllabi, student learning outcomes, and current best practices in pedagogy. Maintain a positive classroom or virtual climate conducive to student learning
- Laboratory Supervision: Lead hands-on lab experiments, strictly maintaining laboratory safety protocols, guiding students through scientific data collection, and fostering critical scientific inquiry
- Technology Integration: Competently utilize instructional technologies, including the college's Learning Management System (Canvas), for grading, course announcements, and virtual teaching components.Evaluation & Feedback: Review, grade, and return student assignments, laboratory reports, and exams in a timely manner. Provide regular academic feedback to assist student growth
- Office Hours: Be accessible to students for brief academic guidance, questions, or clarification before/after face-to-face sessions or via scheduled virtual office hours
- Administrative Compliance: Follow academic policies outlined in the SVCC Adjunct Faculty Handbook, submit final course grades by college deadlines, and report student enrollment or attendance issues as required.
