About the Opportunity
Pinnacle Freight is seeking an experienced Fleet Manager to lead the daily operations of our growing fleet. This position is responsible for maximizing equipment uptime, supporting our drivers, ensuring regulatory compliance, and controlling maintenance costs while delivering exceptional service to our customers.
The ideal candidate is an organized, hands-on leader with strong communication skills, a sense of urgency, and a passion for keeping trucks moving safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of a fleet of tractors, trailers, and refrigerated equipment.
- Coordinate all preventive maintenance and repairs to maximize fleet availability.
- Respond to roadside breakdowns and ensure drivers receive prompt support.
- Schedule maintenance while minimizing operational disruptions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with outside vendors and repair facilities.
- Negotiate repair costs and monitor vendor performance.
- Review repair estimates and invoices for accuracy.
- Track maintenance expenses and identify opportunities to reduce operating costs.
- Ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
- Monitor equipment inspections, registrations, permits, and maintenance records.
- Work closely with Dispatch, Operations, Safety, and Drivers to proactively address equipment concerns.
- Monitor telematics, fault codes, reefer performance, and equipment utilization.
- Assist with fleet replacement planning and capital equipment recommendations.
- Manage licensing, permitting, and equipment documentation.
- Develop and maintain maintenance KPIs, including PM compliance, breakdown frequency, equipment uptime, and maintenance cost per mile.
- Foster a culture focused on safety, accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of fleet maintenance or fleet management experience.
- Strong knowledge of Class 8 tractors, refrigerated trailers, and trailer maintenance.
- Working knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
- Experience managing outside repair vendors and negotiating repair costs.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple issues in a fast-paced transportation environment.
- Experience with fleet maintenance software, telematics, and Microsoft Office.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
Preferred Experience
- Refrigerated transportation experience.
- Experience building maintenance programs from the ground level.
- Knowledge of Thermo King and Carrier refrigeration units.
- Experience managing PM programs.
- Familiarity with ELD and telematics platforms.
- Experience managing equipment budgets and maintenance KPIs.
- Experience with Samsara and/or TMW Platform
