Position Summary
The Fitness Supervisor is responsible for the leadership, development, administration, and daily operation of the Fitness Division at The Lodge Des Peres. This position provides strategic leadership for fitness and wellness programming, personal training, group exercise, fitness memberships and services, staff supervision, customer service, facility operations, financial management, and fitness equipment management.
The Fitness Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the Fitness Division provides high-quality, innovative, safe, and financially sustainable services that meet the needs of the community and members of The Lodge. The position works collaboratively with Department leadership and other Lodge divisions to support the overall success of the facility and the Parks & Recreation Department.
The Fitness Supervisor is also responsible for developing and maintaining a long-term capital replacement plan for fitness equipment and actively participates in the City's annual capital budget planning process.
As a member of the Department's leadership team, the position participates in the Supervisor on Duty (SOD) program, providing operational leadership for The Lodge Des Peres during assigned evenings, rotating weekends, and holidays.

Fitness Programming & Division Management
· Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive fitness and wellness programs, including personal training, group exercise, fitness assessments, and other fitness-related services.
· Monitor industry trends, member interests, participation patterns, and community needs to identify opportunities for new programs, services, and revenue-generating opportunities.
· Evaluate existing programs and services using participation, revenue, customer feedback, and other performance indicators and make adjustments as appropriate.
· Develop and maintain program schedules that effectively utilize fitness spaces, staff resources, and equipment.
· Ensure fitness programs and services are delivered consistently and in accordance with Department standards, policies, and procedures.
· Maintain a strong customer-service culture within the Fitness Division and ensure members receive a welcoming, professional, and positive experience.
· Develop and maintain relationships with members and respond appropriately to questions, concerns, suggestions, and complaints.
· Represent the Fitness Division at Department meetings, community events, and other public forums as needed.
Staff Supervision & Development
· Supervise and provide leadership to Fitness Division staff, including personal trainers, group exercise instructors, fitness desk associates, and other assigned employees.
· Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, coach, evaluate, and develop employees in accordance with City policies and Department procedures.
· Establish clear performance expectations and hold employees accountable for meeting departmental standards.
· Develop staff training and professional development opportunities to enhance employee knowledge, customer service, and technical skills.
· Monitor staffing levels and schedules to ensure adequate coverage and efficient use of personnel.
· Foster a positive, professional, inclusive, and team-oriented work environment.
· Address employee performance and personnel issues in consultation with Department leadership and Human Resources as appropriate.
· Recognize and encourage employee contributions and professional growth.
Fitness Operations & Customer Service
· Oversee the daily operation of the fitness center, group exercise studios, fitness areas, track, and other assigned fitness-related spaces at The Lodge.
· Ensure fitness areas are clean, safe, organized, properly staffed, and maintained to established Department standards.
· Coordinate with Facility & Operations staff regarding preventative maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and other facility needs.
· Monitor the condition and functionality of fitness equipment and promptly address equipment issues that may affect safety or member experience.
· Establish and maintain appropriate procedures for fitness equipment use, inspection, cleaning, and preventative maintenance.
· Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, City policies, Department procedures, and industry best practices.
· Maintain appropriate records relating to equipment, programs, staff, memberships, participation, incidents, and other operational activities.
· Work collaboratively with other Lodge supervisors to ensure consistent facility operations and customer service.
Capital Planning & Equipment Lifecycle Management
· Develop and maintain a comprehensive, long-term capital replacement plan for all fitness equipment at The Lodge.
· Coordinate the annual capital budget planning process for the Fitness Division and prepare capital requests based on equipment lifecycle, condition, usage, maintenance history, technology, industry trends, and operational needs.
· Maintain a three-year replacement cycle for cardiovascular equipment, ensuring individual cardio pieces are scheduled for replacement before exceeding the Department's established three-year lifecycle.
· Maintain a five-year replacement cycle for strength equipment and ensure equipment is scheduled for replacement in accordance with the established lifecycle.
· Maintain accurate inventory and replacement schedules for cardiovascular, strength, and other major fitness equipment.
· Research current fitness equipment technologies, manufacturers, warranties, maintenance requirements, and industry trends to inform capital recommendations.
· Obtain and evaluate vendor proposals, equipment specifications, pricing, warranties, and service agreements.
· Develop written recommendations and supporting information for capital equipment purchases.
· Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director, Department leadership, Finance Department, and other appropriate City staff throughout the capital planning and purchasing process.
· Coordinate the delivery, installation, removal, and disposal of fitness equipment in conjunction with appropriate City staff and vendors.
Financial Management & Revenue Development
· Develop, monitor, and manage operating budgets associated with the Fitness Division.
· Prepare annual/quarterly revenue and expenditure projections and identify opportunities to increase participation and revenue.
· Monitor financial performance of personal training, group exercise, fitness programs, and other assigned services.
· Analyze participation, revenue, expenses, and cost recovery to evaluate program effectiveness and financial sustainability.
· Identify opportunities to increase revenue through new programs, services, partnerships, pricing strategies, and improved utilization of existing resources.
· Monitor purchasing and expenditures to ensure responsible stewardship of City resources.
· Review financial reports and communicate significant trends, opportunities, or concerns to Department leadership.
· Ensure fees, registrations, payroll, purchasing, and other financial transactions are handled in accordance with City policies and procedures.
Marketing, Membership & Community Engagement
· Work collaboratively with the Communications, Marketing & Sponsorships Specialist to promote fitness programs, personal training, group exercise, memberships, special events, and other services.
· Provide timely program information, schedules, photos, content, and other materials necessary for effective marketing and communication.
· Develop strategies to increase awareness, participation, retention, and utilization of Fitness Division programs and services.
· Identify opportunities to introduce fitness and wellness services to new populations and underserved segments of the community.
· Monitor member feedback and use that information to improve programs, services, and the overall member experience.
Supervisor on Duty (Leadership & Operations)
· Serve as acting Building Supervisor during assigned SOD shifts, including assigned evening, rotating weekend, and holiday shifts.
· Provide operational leadership and oversight for The Lodge Des Peres during assigned SOD shifts.
· Respond to emergencies, incidents, accidents, injuries, and customer concerns and take appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of patrons and staff.
· Support staff and provide direction when operational, staffing, customer service, or facility issues arise.
· Coordinate with Public Safety, emergency personnel, Facility & Operations staff, and other City personnel when necessary.
· Complete or ensure completion of required incident reports, documentation, and follow-up communication.
· Communicate significant incidents, operational concerns, facility issues, and customer concerns to appropriate Department leadership.
· Ensure The Lodge operates in a safe, efficient, professional, and customer-focused manner during assigned SOD shifts.
Administrative Responsibilities
· Maintain accurate records, reports, schedules, inventories, and other documentation related to the Fitness Division.
· Attend staff, departmental, and other meetings as required.
· Prepare reports, correspondence, budget information, program evaluations, and other documents as assigned.
· Stay current on fitness, wellness, recreation, management, and industry trends through professional development, training, conferences, and professional organizations.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, parks and recreation, health and wellness, business administration, or a related field.
· Five years of progressively responsible experience in fitness, wellness, recreation, or a related field, including supervisory or management experience.
· Experience managing fitness programs, staff, budgets, and facility operations.
· Valid driver's license.
· Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
· Personal Training and/or Group Exercise certification from a nationally recognized organization.
· Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification preferred.
· Municipal or parks and recreation experience preferred.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in office, fitness, recreation, facility, and event settings. Evening, weekend, holiday, and Supervisor on Duty assignments are required. Work may involve exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, noise, cleaning chemicals, and other conditions commonly associated with a recreation facility.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and move throughout a recreation facility for extended periods. Ability to operate standard office and fitness-related equipment. Ability to lift and/or move equipment and materials weighing up to 60 pounds. Must be able to see, speak, hear, and communicate effectively. Work Environment
