The Referral Coordinator plays a key role in coordinating patient care between primary and specialty providers. This position manages outgoing referrals, verifies insurance requirements, communicates with patients and external offices, and ensures all documentation is accurate and complete to support efficient care delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and track all outgoing referrals to specialists and ancillary services.
- Obtain required insurance authorizations and verify coverage prior to scheduling.
- Communicate with patients regarding referral status, scheduling, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate with providers, nurses, and front office staff to ensure timely coordination of care.
- Maintain accurate records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and follow HIPAA compliance standards.
- Follow up with specialists for consultation notes and ensure documentation is received and routed appropriately.
- Identify and resolve referral-related issues and assist in improving workflow efficiency.
