Second Best Detroit, a from scratch neighborhood sports bar in Brush Park, is seeking a skilled and passionate Lead Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment and a strong understanding of food safety and preparation techniques. As the Chef, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality meals to our customers while leading a clean and organized kitchen. This position is full-time and includes nights and weekends. This position reports directly to the Culinary Directors and Director of Operations.
Responsibilities
- Leading the kitchen in day to day operations.
- Writing weekly staff schedules.
- Professional and hospitality forward interactions with team members and guests.
- Taking regular inventories, placing orders, and ensuring product rotation while limiting waste.
- Prepare and cook menu items according to recipes and standards set by the restaurant. This is a "working" chef position, the Chef is active on the hot line.
- Ensure all food is prepared in compliance with food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations, utensils, and equipment.
- Follow proper food handling procedures to minimize waste and ensure quality.
- Be a leader in training new kitchen staff on cooking techniques, safety practices and company standards.
Skills
- Proven experience as a chef/cook in a high volume restaurant setting, with knowledge of various cooking methods.
- Strong understanding of food safety standards and regulations.
- Proficiency in meal preparation, including the ability to work with various kitchen equipment and tools, such as knives.
- Familiarity with dietary restrictions and the ability to accommodate special requests from customers.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Strong communication skills for effective teamwork within the kitchen environment.
- A passion for culinary arts and a hospitality forward approach to life.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
