Title: Liquor Supervisor, Wines and Spirits (in Supermarkets)
Department: Sunrise Cellars (in Supermarket)
Supervised by: Sunrise VP and General Manager
Sunrise ShopRite is a family business which operates supermarkets and liquor stores and views the sale of alcoholic beverages as an integral part of its overall food and beverage business. Sunrise Cellars is the proprietary trade name under which Sunrise ShopRite promotes its fine wine business. The Wines and Spirits Supervisor is responsible for the overall Sales, Merchandising, Promotion, Purchasing, Inventory Control and Gross Profit of both the Parsippany and West Caldwell Liquor departments.
Job Summary:
- To effectively and efficiently direct and supervise all purchasing, advertising and promotion of the Liquor Department to achieve the Department’s goals for sales, profit, and Customer Experience in accordance with our Purpose and Service Priorities under the direction of the Sunrise VP.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all regulations of the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).
- Coordination of pricing, purchasing, inventories, advertising, merchandising and promotions between our two stores
- Keep up with trends in the industry and recommend competitive merchandising and pricing.
- Work with the General Store Managers and Key Departmental Associates to maximize sales and profits, maximize labor productivity, and reduce shrink in both our stores. Monitor weekly, period and quarterly department results and performance against budget. With the Store managers and VP of Operations develops effective action plans for under-performing areas.
- Creates and maintains weekly Wakefern sale files and in store files for all categories: Liquor, Beer and Wine.
- Responsible for all deals, RIP and end of month buying, and verifying retail and sales pricing.
- Responsible for-profit management for the Wines and Spirit departments. This entails the management of assortment to ensure high mix of inbound as well as maximizing available RIPS.
- Manage inventory level to properly balance income from RIPS and inventory turns.
- Conduct regular Associate meetings to ensure effective communication and feedback. Review department results.
- Ensure all Sunrise Cellars Operating Procedures as defined in our SOP’s are effective and relevant.
- Oversee and coach Associates on the implementation and execution of weekly sales plans to ensure proper inventory levels, in-stock positions, availability of specials, holiday and seasonal items, department standards, and presentation.
- Walk the departments and merchandising areas in each store routinely to evaluate and assess conditions, product levels, merchandising standards and scheduling of staff to meet customer service needs.
- Maintain and submit required records and reports to include labor schedules, payroll, RIP logs, outside inventories, gross profit reports to GSM.
- Create and maintain a customer-focused environment by ensuring the immediate follow-up and resolution of all customer complaints, inquiries and suggestions by Associates.
- Represent Sunrise ShopRite at alcoholic beverage Wakefern meetings. Assists in arranging and coordinating all off-site events such as wine tastings, community and marketing events.
- Implement all customer service policies.
- Provide continual training, developmental action planning, and meaningful feedback to hold Associates accountable to ensure efficient job performance, salesmanship, and product knowledge.
- Lead Associates to work cooperatively while encouraging enthusiasm, loyalty, and creativity.
- Promote Sunrise Kitchens by actively engaging with the Catering Coordinator with Customer party planning and events. Assist in the training of key supermarket store personnel as it pertains to food and cheese choices and wine/beer pairings.
Essential Job Functions:
The essential job functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Perform all duties in accordance with all Company policies and programs, and all Local, State, and Federal laws and regulations, including all environmental, health, safety and security policies, programs, laws and regulations as it pertains to store operations and the Liquor Department.
- Maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe work environment in accordance with Department QA standards.
- Understand and adhere to all procedures in emergency situations.
- Regularly lift, pull, push and rotate merchandise that weights 25 lbs., and that occasionally weights up to 80 lbs.
- Unload trucks and transport merchandise to Liquor Department that weights 25 lbs., and that occasionally weights 80 lbs.
- Set up and maintain a proper cleaning maintenance schedule of entire department.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
The minimum required qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business or Management preferred
- Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
- Ability to perform basic computer functions.
- Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift 80 lbs.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures.
- Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.
- Ability to climb a ladder to retrieve items from overhead racking and storage areas.
- Ability to interact with Customers in a friendly and helpful way.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.
- Ability to engage and lead Associates to achieve department goals.
