We are seeking a Senior Track Engineer to join our growing Rail & Transit team in New York City, New York. This leadership role is responsible for delivering and overseeing track planning, design, and operations analysis for transit, passenger, and freight rail projects from concept through construction. As a vital member of our Rail and Transit Team in the Northeast Region, you’ll provide senior technical leadership for track design efforts including large-scale design-build programs, corridor infrastructure improvement projects, ADA upgrade packages, and specialized, niche rail and transit design projects. This role requires a strong understanding of railroad engineering principles, track geometry, operational constraints, and industry standards. You will be responsible for leading the planning, design, and delivery from concept to final completion ensuring compliance with engineering standards, safety regulations, and operational requirements.
Beyond technical leadership the Senior Track Engineer will mentor mid-level and junior staff helping to cultivate the next generation of rail professionals, support project pursuits and foster client relationships. In addition to local impact, you will engage and build relationships with Jacobs staff across the country, fostering collaboration and supporting the success of projects nationwide.

Typical Responsibilities:
- Lead the design development and delivery of work packages for commuter rail, heavy rail, light rail, freight, and transit projects from feasibility to handover coordinating with a team of discipline leads and engineers.
- Design track, station and platform layouts; transit alignments; interlockings; geometry improvements and yards and terminals.
- Prepare and review track plans and profiles, typical sections, calculations and specifications.
- Develop and coordinate construction staging, outage windows, possession strategies, and access requirements in coordination with railroad operations and project stakeholders
- Lead coordination with structural, site/civil, signals, communication, traction power, systems and architectural disciplines to successfully integrate track infrastructure into complex rail environments.
- Oversee discipline-specific QA/QC procedures, design reviews and constructability reviews.
- Oversee design quality upholding the upmost quality standards and participate in interdisciplinary design reviews.
- Ensure adherence to engineering standards, rail authority regulations, and safety requirements (e.g., FRA, AREMA).
- Support business development activities and proposal preparation. Proactively identify rail/transit opportunities contributing to the strategic growth of the Northeast region.
- Play a key role in the growth and development of the NY Track Team, fostering a culture of learning and innovation. Serve as a technical leader and mentor, guiding and coaching junior staff.
- Contribute to nationwide rail-transit initiatives, best practices, and project delivery strategies.
