The Surveyor is responsible for performing all surveying and geospatial activities required to support the construction and layout of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This role ensures accurate site measurements, layout verification, and as-built documentation to maintain precision throughout all phases of civil and electrical construction. The Surveyor plays a critical role in translating design data into actionable field layouts that meet engineering specifications and project quality standards.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Conduct site surveys, topographic mapping, and layout staking to support all phases of construction, including grading, foundations, roadwork, racking, and electrical infrastructure.

Interpret design drawings, site plans, and technical specifications to ensure accurate implementation in the field.

Establish and maintain control points, benchmarks, and reference systems for site construction and quality control.

Operate and maintain survey instruments such as GPS systems, total stations, data collectors, and laser scanning equipment.

Perform pre-construction staking, and in-process as-built surveys to verify compliance with design tolerances and engineering requirements.

Coordinate with civil, structural, and electrical teams to provide precise survey data for installation, alignment, and verification.

Maintain detailed and accurate field records, survey reports, and data logs for project documentation and handover.

Ensure all survey activities are performed safely and in accordance with company, federal, and local regulations.

Support project teams in resolving layout or alignment discrepancies through technical analysis and corrective action.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in field surveying methods and data management processes.
Employment Terms

Requirements
We are looking for candidates who bring:
-
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.

5+ years of field surveying experience, with 2 years as a party chief or lead man for survey crews. Experience is ideally within utility-scale construction, renewable energy, or infrastructure projects.

Proficiency in modern surveying equipment and software.

Strong understanding of geodetic principles, coordinate systems, and construction layout practices.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.

Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with construction and engineering teams.

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to remote project sites as needed.

Knowledge of safety practices and OSHA standards applicable to construction sites.
