Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Service Writer to join our busy Diesel Repair Shop. In this vital role, you will serve as the primary point of contact for customers, translating their vehicle concerns into clear, accurate repair orders. Your expertise in automotive diagnostics, mechanical knowledge, and customer service will ensure a seamless experience for clients while supporting our technicians with precise information. Duties
- Greet customers warmly and listen attentively to understand their vehicle issues and service needs.
- Write detailed and accurate repair orders, including all necessary diagnostics, repairs, and recommended services such as transmissions, brakes, oil changes, suspension, tire service, air brakes, alignments, shocks & struts, and diesel engine repairs.
- Communicate effectively with technicians to relay customer concerns and ensure proper diagnosis and repair procedures are followed.
- Upsell additional services or maintenance based on vehicle condition assessments to enhance customer satisfaction and shop revenue.
- Manage customer inquiries regarding estimates, repair progress, and vehicle pickup times with professionalism and enthusiasm.
- Handle cash transactions accurately and maintain organized records of all service work performed.
- Assist in auto estimating processes and provide clear explanations of repair recommendations to customers.
Requirements
- Proven dealership or auto service management experience with a strong background in automotive diagnostics and repair.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems including transmissions, oil changes, brake systems, suspension components, tires, air brakes, alignments, shocks & struts, and diesel engines.
- Prior experience as a service technician or mechanic is highly desirable to facilitate effective communication with technical staff.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to upsell services confidently while maintaining integrity.
- Familiarity with auto estimating software and automotive repair procedures is essential.
- Strong mechanical knowledge combined with the ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
- Experience in automobile sales or auto body repair is a plus but not required.
