Under the supervision of the pharmacist, assists with support activities and processes required to dispense medical prescriptions, maintains a sanitary work environment and patient area, manages and restocks pharmaceutical inventory, and orders supplies.
Receives, types, labels, and fills medication orders and prescriptions appropriately followed by a final check by the Pharmacist;
Reviews basic chart screening procedures, which include allergies, and weight/age-based dosing information during prescription data entry into Pharmacy Program;
Maintains all prescription and order records via an electronic filing system for health and billing purposes;
Coordinates with pharmacy billers and other pharmacy staff to complete billing of prescription claims to the extent possible and appropriate;
Provides consistent accurate information to patients and other customers, in person and by phone;
Accurately dispenses prescriptions to patients, verifying patient identity and offering counseling from a Pharmacist;
Performs data entry into pharmacy electronic and automated systems, including RPMS, ScriptPro, etc.;
Routinely inspects assigned drug storage areas to ensure proper storage, security, and prepares proper documentation;
Completes all electronic health record entries accurately and timely pertinent to patient care role;
Coordinates the use of Pharmacy software for the provision of quality clinical care including the Electronic Health Record as it relates to pharmacy functions and the use of RPMS information for use in the clinical decision-making process;
Other position related duties as required and assigned.
High School Diploma or GED and current Pharmacy Technician Registration issued by the Texas Board of Pharmacy; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire; must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and be insurable; must be able to successfully pass a post-offer drug screen and criminal history background investigation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of RPMS or pharmacy computer system; knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer and personal services; knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.; ability to participate in scheduled and organized continuing education programs as conducted by the Pharmacist; strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and analytical skills; ability to demonstrate leadership in the work environment, promote harmony and customer service; ability to work independently; ability to handle highly confidential data; Skills in database management and record keeping; ability to communicate effectively and collaborate within the department and YDSP; Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with customer; ability to multi-tasks and prioritize work effectively; Ability to follow instructions and efficiently respond to management request; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and through correspondence.
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand for prolonged periods of time and reach with hands and arms. The employee may be required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision and ability to adjust focus.
