Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and shape the fiscal direction of our organization. The Chief Financial Officer serves as the senior financial executive across a commodity trading enterprise and its fuel and lubricant distribution subsidiary, owning all aspects of finance, accounting, treasury, capital structure, and risk management. This role leads the finance organization, manages banking and lender relationships, and partners with ownership to drive profitable growth, protect margins, and maintain disciplined capital deployment across multiple operating entities with consolidated reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Capital Structure & Financing
- Negotiate term sheets, credit agreements, and amendments with banks, private credit funds, and other lenders
- Manage borrowing base facilities, including preparation, certification, and submission of borrowing base reports and compliance certificates
- Monitor and maintain compliance with financial and affirmative/negative covenants; forecast covenant headroom and proactively manage lender communications
- Structure and execute debt financing, working capital lines, equipment/fleet financing, and inventory- or receivables-backed facilities
Treasury & Cash Management
- Direct treasury operations, including cash positioning, liquidity forecasting, bank account structure, and daily cash management across entities
- Optimize working capital across inventory, receivables, and payables, with attention to the elevated inventory and margin cycles typical of commodity and fuel businesses
- Manage banking relationships, credit lines, letters of credit, and payment/collection systems
Accounting, Reporting & Controls
- Own the consolidation of financial statements across multiple legal entities, including intercompany eliminations, allocations, and a multi-entity chart of accounts
- Deliver timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financials in accordance with US GAAP
- Lead the month-end and year-end close; manage external audit, review, and tax preparation relationships
- Establish and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and segregation of duties across the organization
Risk Management
- Oversee commodity price risk and hedging policy and execution (futures, swaps, or physical positions) in coordination with trading operations
- Manage insurance programs, customer credit risk, and counterparty exposure
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, tax, and reporting obligations across jurisdictions, including motor fuel / excise tax and environmental reporting where applicable
Planning & Analysis
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
- Build and maintain financial models, scenario analysis, and pricing / margin analytics
- Provide decision support on capital expenditures, lease-versus-buy analysis, acquisitions, and new business lines
Leadership
- Manage, develop, and scale a team of accounting and finance staff (controllers, AP/AR, staff accountants, treasury)
- Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, ownership, and operating leaders
- Support M&A activity, including diligence, valuation, financing, and integration
Qualifications
- Certification: Active CPA license required
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; MBA a plus
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive finance/accounting leadership, with prior CFO or Controller experience in a multi-entity environment
- Financing: Demonstrated experience negotiating term sheets and credit agreements and managing asset-based or borrowing-base lending relationships
- Lending: Deep working knowledge of bank covenants, borrowing base mechanics, and lender reporting
- Consolidation: Proven experience consolidating financials across multiple companies
- Treasury: Strong treasury management and working capital expertise
- Industry: Commodity trading, energy, fuel distribution, or a related margin/inventory-intensive industry strongly preferred
- Hedging: Familiarity with commodity hedging and derivatives instruments
- Systems: Advanced financial modeling and ERP / accounting systems proficiency
- Audit: Experience managing external audits and, where relevant, private equity or lender reporting standards

Pay: $200,000.00 - $300,000.00 per year
