JOB This position is located in Carson City, NV. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring that required field inspections of projects are completed and well documented; all construction activities are completed using proper methods and standards; contractor’s quantities of work are measured and calculated; necessary material and soils testing frequencies and specifications are met; all sampling and testing is performed per established test methods; assist the survey crew chief with construction survey as directed; contract files are organized in accordance with the documentation manual; complete required contract forms and reports; review all quantity calculations, test reports, payrolls, and other miscellaneous contract files; attend all assigned trainings; properly maintain assigned equipment and vehicle; maintain a positive professional public image for the Department; and complete tasks as directed by the Resident Engineer. Engineering Technicians on construction crews may work in an office setting or outside in urban environments and rural environments in a wide range of temperatures and climates. Office setting commonly require working on a computer using a variety of software. Urban environments may be located in areas which require interaction with the public and in areas of high traffic volumes. Rural environments may be outside the city limits and away from readily accessible general services. Engineering Technicians on construction crews may work alternative shifts outside of traditional business hours (overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and long-term travel on per diem) This is the advanced level in the series and incumbents had to have met the minimum qualifications to be eligible.
Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods, and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, physics, math or closely related field and two years of experience in a specialized engineering function or program area which involved the application of work procedures, standards and controls; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
