Scientific Data Operations
C5R is building facilities that connect frontier AI to the physical world. We believe this connection is a force for good in expanding humanity's scientific discovery.
We are hiring for full-time Scientific Data Operations roles to help improve the quality of robot task data collected inside our San Francisco facility. In this role, you will review videos of robots conducting wet-lab tasks, identify mistakes or unusual outcomes, and label task results clearly and consistently.
This is focused, detail-oriented onsite work for someone with scientific judgment. We are looking for people who understand what careful lab work looks like, including contamination risks, protocol slips, sample handling mistakes, and other small details that can change the outcome of an experiment.
What You Will Do
- Review videos of robots and robot operators conducting wet-lab tasks inside the facility.
- Identify mistakes, contamination risks, protocol deviations, incomplete attempts, unusual behavior, and task outcomes.
- Label video data according to annotation guidelines developed with the science, robotics, and research teams.
- Apply standards consistently across many similar videos and task runs.
- Flag ambiguous cases, data quality issues, or repeated failure patterns to the team.
- Help improve guidelines by documenting edge cases and recurring sources of scientific or operational confusion.
- Participate in quality control workflows, including label review, error correction, and consistency checks.
- Work with operators, scientists, engineers, and researchers to make annotations useful for training and evaluating robotic systems.
What We Are Looking For
- Hands-on wet-lab, scientific lab, or lab operations experience
- Undergraduate students, BS or MS graduates, or people with equivalent practical experience
- Experience as a Research Assistant, Associate Scientist, Lab Technician, Process Engineer, Materials Engineer, Scientist I, or similar hands-on role for at least 1 year is especially relevant.
- Strong attention to detail, diligence, and pride in running experiments carefully.
- Reliability, punctuality, and comfort working onsite in a fast-moving facility environment.
- Interest in robotics, AI, automation, or hands-on scientific systems.
Nice To Have
- Experience with wet-lab workflows such as pipetting, sample handling, sterile technique, assays, or routine experimental protocols.
- Experience annotating video, robotics, operational, or other time-based scientific data.
- Experience labeling task outcomes, errors, edge cases, or protocol deviations.
Role Growth
This role can grow with the facility. Strong performers may have opportunities to expand into quality assurance, annotation process design, dataset operations, robot operations support, lab facility support, training other reviewers, and team leadership.
