Position Summary
The Loss Prevention & Security Investigator is responsible for supporting store safety, security, loss prevention, asset protection, and incident investigation activities at the store. This position combines unarmed security responsibilities with loss prevention functions and works closely with Store Management and other store team members to help maintain a safe, secure, and positive environment for employees and customers.
The position is responsible for monitoring store activity, identifying and reporting potential security or loss-prevention concerns, documenting incidents, monitoring CCTV when assigned, and supporting investigations in accordance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSecurity & Store Safety
- Maintain a visible security presence throughout the store and monitor store activity.
- Monitor entrances, exits, sales areas, and other designated areas for safety and security concerns.
- Observe and report suspicious activity, safety concerns, disturbances, or unusual incidents.
- Respond to security and safety incidents in accordance with company policies and established procedures.
- Assist in maintaining a safe environment for customers, employees, vendors, and visitors.
- Contact store management, emergency services, or law enforcement when appropriate and in accordance with company procedures.
- Document incidents, unusual occurrences, and security-related activities accurately and promptly.
- Follow all applicable company policies and procedures regarding emergency response, incident reporting, and workplace safety.
Loss Prevention & Asset Protection
- Monitor store activity to help prevent and reduce merchandise loss, theft, fraud, and other forms of shrink.
- Conduct CCTV monitoring and review footage when assigned to support loss prevention activities and incident investigations.
- Identify and report suspicious transactions, behavior, or activities that may present a loss-prevention concern.
- Assist with investigations involving suspected shoplifting, internal theft, inventory discrepancies, fraudulent activity, or other potential losses.
- Gather and preserve relevant information and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
- Prepare clear, factual, and timely incident and investigation reports.
- Maintain confidentiality of investigation-related information and company records.
- Identify recurring loss-prevention issues and communicate observations and recommendations to Store Management.
- Work collaboratively with Store Management and other authorized personnel during investigations.
Customer & Employee Interaction
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and customer-focused approach when interacting with customers, employees, and other individuals.
- Follow company procedures when addressing suspected loss or security concerns.
- Use appropriate verbal communication and de-escalation techniques when responding to incidents.
- Do not represent yourself as a police officer or other law enforcement officer.
- Do not use force, detention, searches, or other physical intervention except as specifically permitted by applicable law and company policy.
- Immediately report significant incidents or safety concerns to the appropriate member of management.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete required incident reports, investigation documentation, and other loss-prevention records accurately.
- Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of CCTV footage, reports, and other investigation-related information.
- Follow company policies, training requirements, and applicable federal, New York State, and New York City laws.
- Maintain all required New York State Security Guard registration and training requirements throughout employment.
- Cooperate with internal investigations and other authorized company processes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Valid and active New York State Security Guard registration for unarmed security work.
- Must remain eligible to maintain the required New York State Security Guard registration throughout employment.
- Must complete and maintain all security guard training required by New York State, including applicable annual training requirements.
- Previous experience in retail security, loss prevention, asset protection, security, investigations, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with CCTV monitoring and incident documentation is preferred.
- Strong observation and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to write clear, factual, and professional incident reports.
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers, employees, managers, and other individuals.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when responding to incidents or difficult situations.
- Ability to maintain confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and other periods based on business needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during a work shift.
- Ability to move throughout the store and access different areas of the premises.
- Ability to perform routine security and loss-prevention duties consistent with the position and applicable law.

Security Guard Registration & Training
This position includes security guard duties and is an unarmed position. The employee must maintain a valid New York State Security Guard registration and comply with applicable New York State security guard training requirements.
New York State requires individuals engaged in security guard activities to be registered with the New York Department of State and to complete applicable required training. For unarmed security guards, required training generally includes 8-hour pre-assignment training, 16-hour on-the-job training within 90 days of employment, and 8-hour annual in-service training.
The Company will verify the applicant's eligibility through the New York State Security Guard Registry as required and maintain applicable employment and registration documentation.
Physical Requirements

Ability to move throughout all areas of the store, including stockrooms and receiving areas.
Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and evolving situations.
Ability to occasionally lift and move merchandise up to 30 pounds.
Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
