Fiber Optic Splicing & Placing Contractor – Unit-Based Pay

Opportunity Summary
fyberLogic LLC is seeking experienced local fiber optic splicing and placing contractors to support fiber construction, maintenance, repair, and deployment work in the Lexington, KY and Central Kentucky area.
This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity with unit-based compensation. Approved unit rates, project details, and production expectations will be shared after execution of a Non-Disclosure Agreement and contractor qualification review.
We are looking for experienced fiber hands and small crews who understand that production only matters when the work is clean, documented, testable, and accepted. The right contractor should be able to perform quality fiber work safely, communicate clearly, provide accurate documentation, and complete assigned scopes without excessive hand-holding.
Scope of Work May Include
- Fiber optic cable placement
- Underground fiber placement
- Aerial fiber placement
- Fiber pulling, blowing, jetting, routing, and dressing
- Fiber cable preparation
- Fusion splicing
- Splice enclosure setup and organization
- Fiber tray management
- Slack storage and cable management
- Handhole, vault, and splice point organization
- Drop installation support
- NID, FDP, FDH, splice case, and panel work
- OTDR testing
- Insertion loss testing
- Continuity and light-level verification
- Fiber troubleshooting and repair
- Emergency restoration support
- Redline and as-built documentation
- Photo documentation and closeout support
Actual assigned scope will depend on project needs, contractor qualifications, equipment availability, and approved unit rates.
Contractor Responsibilities
- Complete assigned fiber splicing, placing, testing, or restoration work in accordance with project specifications.
- Provide labor, tools, vehicles, and equipment necessary to perform accepted scopes unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- Perform work safely and in compliance with applicable project, customer, OSHA, traffic control, and site access requirements.
- Maintain clean workmanship in splice enclosures, handholes, vaults, trays, panels, slack storage, and cable routes.
- Read and follow prints, maps, splice matrices, fiber assignments, construction drawings, KMZ files, and work orders.
- Complete required documentation, including production quantities, photos, redlines, splice records, test results, and closeout information.
- Communicate field issues, access problems, damaged facilities, missing materials, safety concerns, and scope conflicts in a timely manner.
- Protect customer property, existing facilities, and active network infrastructure.
- Correct workmanship deficiencies or documentation gaps related to contractor-performed work.
- Maintain appropriate licensing, insurance, tools, vehicles, and qualifications required for the work being performed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior hands-on experience in fiber optic construction, splicing, placing, testing, or telecom field work.
- Ability to perform assigned work as an independent contractor.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to provide required tools, equipment, and field resources for accepted work scopes.
- Ability to read basic construction prints, splice sheets, maps, or work orders.
- Ability to document completed work accurately.
- Ability to pass project or customer access requirements, which may include background screening, drug screening, safety orientation, or site-specific onboarding.
- Ability to execute a Non-Disclosure Agreement before receiving detailed rate sheets, project documents, or customer-specific information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fusion splicing experience.
- OTDR testing and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with aerial and underground fiber placement.
- Experience with fiber blowing, jetting, pulling, lashing, and drop installation.
- Experience working with handholes, vaults, splice cases, NIDs, FDPs, FDHs, fiber panels, innerduct, conduit, and slack storage.
- Ability to provide accurate redlines, splice records, test results, and closeout documentation.
- Experience with FTTH, middle-mile, utility fiber, enterprise fiber, ISP/OSP construction, or broadband deployment.
- Access to bucket truck, reel trailer, cable trailer, fiber trailer, splicing trailer, compressor, fiber blowing equipment, or other production equipment is a plus.
- OSHA 10, first aid/CPR, traffic control, bucket truck, or fiber optic certifications are a plus.
Compensation
This is a unit-based 1099 contractor opportunity.
Compensation is based on approved production units, assigned scope, project requirements, contractor qualifications, and accepted work completed in accordance with project specifications.
Detailed unit rates and project-specific compensation information will be provided after:
- Contractor qualification review
- Execution of a Non-Disclosure Agreement
- Confirmation of applicable insurance, tools, equipment, and availability
- Review of project scope and production requirements
This is not an hourly employee position. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, tools, vehicles, labor resources, and business expenses unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Insurance / Compliance
Selected contractors may be required to provide proof of insurance before receiving work assignments, including but not limited to:
- General liability insurance
- Commercial auto insurance
- Workers’ compensation or applicable exemption documentation
Requirements may vary by project and scope of work.
Work Environment
Work may occur in residential, commercial, utility, roadway, aerial, underground, and customer premise environments throughout Lexington and the surrounding Central Kentucky area.
Contractors may work around active construction zones, traffic control areas, handholes, vaults, aerial plant, underground conduit systems, customer facilities, and existing fiber networks.
Contractors are expected to perform work safely, professionally, and in accordance with project standards.
