Rice School of Law Library seeks a highly-motivated, service-oriented, and technology-focused librarian to join an academic research library with the primary goal of supporting the work of the 60 faculty and over 640 students of the School of Law, but which also actively serves the University community, state government, the Bench and Bar, and the citizens of South Carolina. The successful candidate will focus on either Legal Technology or Student Engagement and Outreach.
The Librarian will be available to teach a required first-year legal research, analysis, and writing course and may teach upper-level legal research or technology courses. A legal technology-focused librarian will support legal technology programs for the library and the Joseph F. Rice School of Law, including (1) the new AI Ethics & Law Initiative (and its AI Law Lab) and (2) the Technology, Innovation, and Law Collaborative. This position will serve as a key resource on emerging legal technology, law firm technology, and legal technology initiatives. The librarian will be expected to develop and maintain an extensive working knowledge of current and emerging legal technologies, legal technology processes, artificial intelligence, and other related topics. This position presents wide-ranging opportunities for a candidate interested in law libraries and legal technology and innovation. The candidate will contribute significantly to legal technology and AI initiatives at the law library and the law school.
A student engagement and outreach-focused librarian will develop and coordinate programs, services, and events to enrich the law student experience, including orientation, legal research and technology training sessions and library awareness events, individual or student group research consultations, prepare-to-practice sessions, and library-hosted student events. Cultivates strong working relationships with students and student groups. Creates content for library communications, including social media.
The Librarian reports to the Associate Director of the Law Library and works closely with the other library faculty and staff.
