Responsibilities
- Safely operate a range of commercial trucks such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and refrigerated trailers to transport grain and other agricultural commodities.
- Load and unload cargo efficiently using manual handling techniques or equipment like forklifts, ensuring proper securing of freight according to safety standards.
- Navigate routes accurately using GPS navigation systems to meet delivery schedules while complying with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations and FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) standards.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections on vehicles to identify maintenance needs or safety issues before and after each trip.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, cargo details, route information, and delivery documentation in accordance with hazardous materials regulations when applicable.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and logistics teams to coordinate deliveries, pickups, and route adjustments as needed.
- Follow all safety protocols related to hazardous materials regulations and dangerous goods handling when transporting sensitive or hazardous commodities.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving with a focus on logistics cargo handling.
- Proficiency in operating manual transmission vehicles and familiarity with various trailer types such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations for safe transport practices.
- Ability to handle manual tasks efficiently during load & unload operations using appropriate equipment like forklifts or manual handling techniques.
- Excellent driving skills with a clean record; experience with freight delivery in agricultural settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation systems for accurate route planning and execution.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with team members and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
