Overview
The Verandah is a locally owned Caribbean restaurant in the heart of downtown Troy, serving authentic Jamaican cuisine with a focus on quality, consistency, and genuine island hospitality. We are seeking an experienced Caribbean Line Cook who is passionate about Caribbean food and confident preparing traditional dishes in a fast paced kitchen.
The ideal candidate has hands on experience cooking Caribbean cuisine, works efficiently under pressure, maintains high food quality and sanitation standards, and takes pride in every plate served. This position requires someone who can contribute immediately to our kitchen while working collaboratively with a team that values excellence, consistency, and respect.
Duties
- Prepare and cook authentic Caribbean and Jamaican dishes according to The Verandah's recipes and quality standards.
- Set up, stock, and maintain your station before, during, and after each shift.
- Execute food orders accurately and efficiently during lunch and dinner service.
- Prepare meats, seafood, vegetables, sauces, soups, and other menu items as assigned.
- Ensure every dish is presented consistently and meets our quality expectations.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, kitchen equipment, and food storage containers as needed throughout each shift.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times, including sweeping, mopping, taking out trash, and completing daily cleaning tasks.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Receive deliveries, rotate inventory, and properly store products using FIFO practices.
- Assist with food preparation, opening duties, and closing duties.
- Work with a sense of urgency while maintaining attention to detail.
- Support fellow team members and contribute wherever needed to ensure efficient kitchen operations.

Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience preparing authentic Caribbean and Jamaican cuisine.
- Previous experience working in a professional restaurant kitchen is required.
- A current resume is required and must reflect Caribbean cooking experience.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance are required.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced kitchen while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Strong knowledge of traditional Caribbean cooking techniques, seasonings, and food preparation.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen safety procedures.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- Team oriented with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
