Position Summary
Penn Foster High School is seeking an enthusiastic full-time Math Teacher to provide academic support to our students. Teachers help students meet established learning objectives while also supporting their personal educational goals.
This role involves interacting with students through phone, email, live chat, and text. The teacher will also support student learning through regular virtual office hours, student appointments, and webinars. In addition, this position works closely with other members of the high school team and colleagues across the organization on projects and initiatives that improve learning outcomes.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide academic support to students via phone, email, live chat, text, office hours, and appointments
- Create and present webinars
- Provide substantive feedback on subjective exams
- Complete administrative tasks as needed, including composing letters, monitoring spreadsheets, and sharing documents with the team
- Review program- and course-level data to determine student needs and guide outreach initiatives
- Review, evaluate, and suggest lesson, course, or program changes to ensure compliance with established standards, guidelines, and practices
- Perform other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics
- State-issued teaching certification in high school Math
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching and/or tutoring
- Access to reliable high-speed internet
- Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new systems
- Excellent time management skills
- Experience with online learning and instructional design
- Strong technical knowledge and understanding of business education
- Strong understanding of how technology can support new methods of instruction
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers
- Compassion for students learning at a distance while managing competing priorities
- Desire to motivate students and coworkers to promote academic success
- Strong work ethic
Preferred
- Experience working with at-risk students
- Ability to think quickly and communicate effectively and efficiently
- Enjoys working as part of a team
- Previous experience in a fast-paced work environment or customer service
- Previous experience in a private, for-profit high school and/or postsecondary education
- Previous experience as an online instructor and/or education services manager
Work Environment & Hiring Requirements
- Role Assessment: Candidates will be required to complete a role-specific assessment as the first step in the hiring process. Assessment results will be used to evaluate alignment with the position and determine next steps in the process.
- Recorded Video Interviews: All video interviews conducted during the hiring process will be recorded to support internal hiring consistency and process improvement.
- Background Checks: Employment with Penn Foster Group is contingent upon successfully completing applicable pre-employment screening requirements, which may include verification of employment history, education, and criminal background, where permitted by law.
- Identity Verification (Form I-9): As part of our onboarding process, all hires must complete employment eligibility verification in compliance with federal law. This includes remote Form I-9 verification, which may require an in-person identity verification step with an authorized representative.
- On-Camera Work Environment: We operate in a highly collaborative, remote, on-camera culture when working remotely. Employees are expected to be on camera during meetings unless extenuating circumstances apply.
