Rate up to $39 per hour
Must be willing to work overtime, some holiday, and be available for training as needed.
Basic Function

The Controls Technician will provide strong technical expertise in electrical systems and controls to assist in troubleshooting, installing, repairing and maintaining production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives. Will be required to program and maintain PLCs, Panelviews, Valves, Network Switches, Sensors, and Flow meters, and other HMIs, VFDs, valves, switches, sensors and flow meters and use adaptive controls skills in creating and editing user programs. Technician will also calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain a variety of instrumentation. Able to read and understand electrical prints. Be able to use plant AssetCentre software. Maintaining good documentation when editing control programs, including communicating all changes and modification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Program PLCs, HMIs, VFD, valves, network switches, sensors, and Flow maters as well as other various control systems. Debug equipment and make light program edits to system controls. On occasion, may be required to program simple systems from scratch. Will calibrate, adjust, load parameters, and generally maintain VFDs, flow meters, discrete and analog IO cards, scales, temperature sensors (such as RTDs) and various other instrumentation devices.
- Install, repair and maintain motors, transformers, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, wiring and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards and regulations.
- Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines, facilities, and plant equipment including power and control circuitry. Installation will include wiring and running conduit as well as building or altering electrical panels.
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production runs and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service. Replaces and configures drives, PLCs, IO cards, sensors, RTDs, photo eyes, proximity switches, motors, servos, and other common electrical equipment and devices.
- Advise management of hazardous conditions on current equipment.
- Use a wide variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties
- Detect faulty operations, defective material and reports those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Comply with safety regulations including NFPA 70 NEC and maintains clean and orderly work area.
- Advise management of improvement opportunities.
- Identify areas where control systems can be improved and report findings to proper supervision as well as implement changes when appropriate.
- Perform mechanical duties when other resources are not available including but not limited to mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, trouble shooting and repair of production machines.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical drawings, and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities.
- Perform, on occasion, a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Working Environment and Conditions
This position requires working in the internal and external environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and the risk of electrical shock and arc flash.
Education, Experience and Training
- High school diploma/GED and completion of a four-year apprenticeship program in electric repair and maintenance and at least two (2) years of electrical experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
- Four plus years of manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical and industrial skills; two years of experience with PLCs, VFDs and instrumentation. Some experience with HVAC.
- Familiarity with motor controls, including VFD’s (variable frequency drives)
- Familiarity with controllers and sensors for temperature, pressure, level and flow, as well as photo eyes and proximity sensors.
- Skilled in computer usage including knowledge of MS Office Suite and CAD software
- Familiarity with industrial communication networks
