POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, assists the physical therapist in the practice of physical therapy. Performs physical therapy treatment for inpatients designed to restore function, prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of body parts and to relieve pain as prescribed by physician according to the treatment plans.
POPULATION SERVED: Core competencies will be assessed primarily on the following patient population(s) served: Cardiac/cardiovascular, neuro, orthopedic, spine care, pulmonary including but not limited to CVA/TIA, joint replacement/fracture repair, etc .
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Treats Patients: Carries out treatment plan as directed by P.T. Communicates any changes in patient’s status to the supervising P.T. Keeps P.T. informed of need to re-assess the patient based upon changes in the patient status. Applies appropriate physical therapy techniques, procedures, exercises and therapeutic modalities based on current standards of clinical practice and state practice act. Utilizes rehab equipment in a safe and effective manner. Modifies the treatment session when indicated, in order to maximize patient progress, within the limits of the plan of care.
Interdisciplinary Interactions: Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team regarding: patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, recommendations, patients who may benefit from Rehab Services but who don’t have orders, all of which are based upon discussions with the supervising P.T. when appropriate.
