This is a semi-skilled position in installing and repairing water distribution and/or wastewater collection facilities and mechanisms. Work involves performing semi-skilled duties and assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of water and/or wastewater services and mains. The employee normally works under direct supervision, and all work is inspected in progress and upon completion.

Skill in the use of small hand tools and related equipment.
ABILITIES-
Ability to learn the methods, practices, and use of tools required for pipe, main service, and water meter installation, testing, and repair.

Ability to operate line-locating equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the general public.

Ability to perform heavy physical manual tasks for extended periods, often in adverse climatic conditions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-
The job requires manual work that involves walking or standing some of the time and exerting up to 100 pounds of force regularly.

The job risks exposure to significant environmental hazards (entering confined spaces, chemical, electrical, mechanical, height, and heat), bright/dim light, indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, asbestos-containing materials, and noise levels.

The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, color perception, sense of smell, depth perception, and texture perception.
