Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly, verify their information, and schedule appointments efficiently using EMR/EHR systems.
- Manage patient check-in/check-out processes while ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Assist patients with eyewear selections, including spectacle lens dispensing, frame adjustments, and fittings to ensure optimal comfort and style.
- Operate POS systems and cash registers accurately for billing, retail sales, and payment processing.
- Support the optical laboratory by preparing prescriptions, performing basic lab tasks, and ensuring quality standards are met.
- Maintain detailed records of vital signs, medical history, and clinical notes related to ophthalmology services.
- Educate patients on health regulation policies related to eye care, pediatrics, senior care, and anatomy knowledge to promote informed decisions.
Skills
- Strong understanding of ophthalmology principles, optics, physiology, and anatomy relevant to eye health.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR software, POS systems, and laboratory equipment used in optical dispensing.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex medical terminology clearly and compassionately.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and state healthcare regulations to ensure compliance at all times.
- Experience in spectacle lens dispensing, eyewear fittings, frame adjustments, and optical laboratory procedures.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations for retail math transactions and dosage measurements related to eye care treatments.
- Familiarity with medical coding related to ophthalmology services and vital signs monitoring.
- Retail sales experience with a focus on eyewear products combined with strong interpersonal skills for engaging customers effectively.
- Aseptic technique knowledge for maintaining a sterile environment during certain procedures or equipment handling.
