We are seeking an experienced Client Accounting Manager to take ownership of client accounting engagements and play a key role on the leadership team in the continued growth of our advisory services. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning client relationships, managing day‑to‑day accounting operations, mentoring team members, and acting as a trusted advisor to business owners.
In this role, you’ll serve as the primary point of contact for your client portfolio, oversee full‑cycle accounting services, and guide both clients and internal team members with confidence and clarity. You’ll work closely with firm leadership and play an important role in shaping how we deliver high‑quality advisory services.
What You’ll Do
- Take ownership of a portfolio of client relationships, serving as the primary accounting and advisory contact.
- Lead day‑to‑day client accounting services, including full‑cycle accounting and month‑end close.
- Manage and review cash‑ and accrual‑basis accounting, ensuring accuracy and consistency with client needs.
- Oversee account reconciliations for bank, credit card, and balance‑sheet accounts.
- Review and prepare journal entries, revenue recognition, inventory reconciliations, and other technical accounting matters.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, providing oversight and support to staff.
- Review and present financial statements, including balance sheets and profit & loss statements, to clients.
- Communicate directly with clients via video meetings, phone calls, email, and in‑person meetings to explain financial results and answer questions.
- Assist with compliance and filing requirements, including 1099s, sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings.
- Oversee payroll processing, including monthly/quarterly payroll, annual W‑2s, and related filings.
- Train, mentor, and review the work of client accounting staff, fostering development and accountability.
- Partner with advisors and operations to learn, maintain, and improve firm technology and accounting systems.
- Proactively identify workflow improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and client experience.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and financial reporting.
- 5+ years of bookkeeping and payroll experience required; leadership or review experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with full‑cycle accounting and month‑end close processes.
- Strong understanding of cash vs. accrual accounting.
- Advanced organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.
- Proficiency with cloud‑based accounting tools such as QuickBooks, CCH Axcess, Pfx Engagement, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- QuickBooks ProAdvisor Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Excellent communication skills with a strong client‑service mindset.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, in‑office team environment.
- Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons when needed.
